Looking for a first gaming pc

I'm looking to get back into pc gaming after around 10 years on console gaming and I don't know a whole lot about different parts and the compatibility between them. I have a budget of around £1500 which I know isn't a whole lot. Any advice on a build that would be ideal for competitive gaming like fortnite and rust. I don't have a monitor in mind either so any suggestions on that would be appreciated too.

For this budget you're looking at 1440p. £300 is a good bet for a display: the Asus VG27AQ1A would be a good starting point, or the Gigabyte G27Q. Pushing the boat out you can get the superb MSI MAG274QRF-QD for £400.

Then for the PC, I'd be looking at something like this:

Just curious. Why have you opted for 2 SSDs and also this might sound dumb but do I need a wireless network card in order to use my wifi for the pc.

Two SSDs means you get various advantages.
  • It's easy to reinstall Windows without re-downloading games. This can be a huge benefit.
  • You get a fast primary drive (where speed is most important) and a large games drive (where size is most important), so you get the best of both worlds. You'll see that the Solidigm drive is much faster than the Intel one.
  • It's the cost-efficient way of doing it. (The Intel one is way cheaper per GB.)
  • Technically there is a minor performance advantage in some scenarios (when you are using both drives to their full performance simultaneously, as you get double the lanes for the data to travel down). However, this is both minor and vanishingly rare, so it's not a big deal.
You have a wireless network card built into the motherboard in the spec above, so there's no need (indeed, no possibility on this config tool!) to add a discrete one.
