Looking for advice?

Hey all i'm here to ask a question and learn a little about pc's and laptops.

I've recently built up a few quotes differing in software and equaling in value. i would just like to know what do the numbers mean for graphics card what numbers should i focus on as requirements for semi decent performance at medium or high settings.

Next question when it comes to ram 32gb doesn't seem like much is this just what run the memory or is this the actual space alotted for memory ?

final question in the memory section is that the actual hard drive you can save stuff onto or is it something else entirely?

Sorry if these questions seem basic just i have very little understanding of the jargin used for computers and tech. i look forward to learning something new about them today. thanks for reading and thanks even more if you gave a response.

It would be easier if you indicate your intended use and budget. In the configurator you can also press the interrogation sign for information on different components.

You mean memory ram? For hard drive the heading is hard disk

We love you Ukraine
You have memory (RAM) which is what stores info from the cpu whilst it's being processed, so essentially you run word, word's process is allocated a portion of RAM needed for it to do its magic whilst it's running, then when it's closed that RAM is again freed up. Then there's a hard drive or ssd or M2 disk which stores information long term. RAM is between 8 and 16GB for a normal system and disk space will be around 128gb up to 10tb (terabytes).

Two totally separate things.

thank you very much for defining these things i believe i am in a better position to decide what size i want these things.

As for the first post i have a budget of roughly £1500 i just dont understand most of the numbers and words listed when looking at video cards.

Another question i have does a bigger ram mean a faster run time ? or is the standard 6gb or w.e it is normally able to put out for most games a decent fps and performance ?

If you list your intended use someone can come up with a suitable spec. If it is mainly for gaming it would also help knowing what monitor you are planning to use. For your budget you could afford an i7 with 16gb ram which is plenty and an SSD as your main drive which makes the pc run faster.

well i think i'm mostly leaning towards a laptop as i'd like to be able to take my games with me when i travel. mostly used for gaming possibly streaming pc games too. i want to be able to run most newer games to a high standard while maintaining performance and quality.

also i want it rush built and also good wifi rates

For gaming, 16gb RAM is plenty. Having more won't give you any benefit.

The GTX 1060 is powerful, and can cope with demanding modern games on pretty high settings. You can look up benchmarks of laptops with the GTX 1060 online.
There are some games benched on the GTX 1060 and other GPUs here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html

For gaming in a laptop you could also consider the defiance in the next day section with a gtx 1070 at £1611. Significance improvement over the gtx 1060.

A good point - items in the next day section I've seen in the past haven't always seemed best value - but that one seems to have a good spec and not be any more expensive than a custom build.

thanks for all the help guys i'll wrestle with the decision on what to buy but thanks for helping me understand better and for providing options for me to work with :D

well i just spent £1400 on a new laptop i paid attention to the specs you listed and i came pretty close to them especially ram and memory so yeah im feeling excited now :D
