Looking for RTX2070 Gaming Laptop - need advice on chasis

Hi Guys.

I am currently play my pc games on my laptop (due to my specific requirements, desktop is not an option) (which is dell inspiron 7567 with gtx 1050) and am eyeing on something with 2070 RTX card (non maxQ) and 144hz screen.
I would go for 15 inch or 17 inch thin bezels (so in this case Recoil or Vortex looks ok.)
I am playing two games mostly - World Of Tanks (and my current laptop is actually keeping very well with it) and PUBG (and my gaming sessions usually last for like 4-6 hours in a row, max)

Issue is that I am worried of the Thermal Throttling, as my current laptop has no issues with it whatsoever (temps never, and I mean - NEVER - increase above 75C).

So what would be my best choice here? Recoil series, or something?
Anyone got really good review links?

I build this one:

Thanks in advance!

P.S. another question - If this laptop would be purchased by EU based company - would it be VAT free and could it be shipped other there as well?

With modern intel gaming CPU's and 2070 GPUs, you need to expect some 'spikes' in temperature due to the crazy levels of turbo-boost (short term) performance that occasionally might happen and the fact a 2070 can generate a huge amount of heat if max'd out.

Modern laptops are a massive dynamic compromise, always trying to maximise clock speeds but having to manage those massively all the time with power limits and thermal limits. Then you have the cooling solution which in auto mode will 'lag' behind any sudden changes in temperature so you end up with spikes of throttling that get managed but are more prevalent.

So for me, if your desire is absolute the highest core speeds for benchmarks and the best frame rates for that type of graphics card, then manufacturers will be more aggressive with their power/thermal management to the point throttling may appear to be more prevalent than others.

I had the same angst when choosing a laptop, because everytime you find one with tops or is close to the top in benchmarks, its no surprise when people on forums are complaining of occasional throttling and start getting worried. I had so many in my basket at various places (e.g. Alienware m15 and various Acer/Asus laptops), in the end I went for the PCS Defiance V (Clevo P960) the owners threads on notebookreview and youtube reviews for the more popular reviewers seemed to really rate it and it's performance/thermals), so just went with that. All other laptops I was interested in either had owners forums with quite a few unhappy people, or reviews that noted heat/poorer performance.

I sense the Recoil III is slightly at odds somewhere, either too aggressive Power/Thermal handling that don't always gel with the available cooling, so whilst it is OK in static review situations, it doesn't take much to find an edge case that has it thermally throttling (but then it's no where near as bad as the alienware m15).

I generally prefer Clevo as I've had a few and not had any fundamental design issues, where as Tong Fang (as the Recoil III is) is just a bit more unknown to me.

ok.. so Defiance V is Clevo and Recoil is TongFang?

As it is quite pricey, I kind of looking for a system, which would last me more than 3 years... :D
my current gtx1050 still OK-ish on my games 2.5 years after I bought it... so 2070 should not have any issues. but Defiance comes with maxQ cards, where Recoil is full blown 2070

The other thing I picked up when looking is that whilst I thought the same, assuming the rtx2070 full fat would be better than the 2080mq, but when you see the various laptop reviews of the specific laptops it’s not that easy, again thermal management means each laptop will have differing default clocks etc and ultimately heat will be holding GPUs back.

For example, some mentioned this thread
That’s the full fat 2070, yet whilst he’s tweaked things nicely his timespy scores for gpu are 1000 points or so less than my 2080mq Defiance.
Of course, I think there are swings and roundabouts between the two cards, some games will be faster, some slower, and each Implementation seems to differ. In the end the other Clevo P960 resellers are charging significantly more for the Defiance V , but in the end it was the reviews that sold me on it, no complaints about poor thermals mainly, I was comparing it the Alienware m15 at the time, but that had too many people complaint, and then I moved to the recoil Iii, but again a few threads popped when searching.

Each to their own, people have different priorities.

The Vortex has gsync, which is a very attractive feature.

I'm not sure if that person mentioned above benched timespy with gsync on, but if they did it will have lowered the scores.

The Vortex has generally had positive reviews on the forums, has gsync, sports the non-max-q 2070 in a 15" chassis, I believe has thunderbolt, and would be my first port of call if looking at a laptop in this class/price range.

Mine too, when it comes to ultimate gaming at 1080p, the vortex is the premium choice.

There is new Vortex, with 240hz screen.. However I really doubt it's worth it?

It appears to be over £100 more, and lack gsync. So no, not unless you're into some very competitive esports.

Buy the RAM as 2 x 8gb so it's dual channel.

That SSD is small, slow, and a waste of a 2.5" bay.

It's probably buy the £5 warranty upgrade, and the dead pixel guarantee

aight. yes, I meant to put it to two sticks of 8, + I actually have 500 gb ssd in my current laptop, so would transfer, hence I need the smallest/cheapest with this one ;)
