media pc spec, any suggestions?

hey, I haven't tried doing a custom build before and I'm not really up to speed on the relative strengths of the components/brands so any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking for something primarily for media streaming and a bit of gaming (but not the high end gaming) so something flexible. As far as I can tell, quad i7s with 16GB of RAM should run a bunch of heavy duty programs without any fuss. Looking for ~5 year working lifetime so overspec for today and it should be alright for the whole run. I'm not really sure about the value of the motherboard, should this be better? Is the graphics card sufficient and balanced with the rest of the components, particularly with the monitor?

thanks so much =)

Which you say a media PC for streaming, do you mean streaming as in watching things off Netflix, BBC iPlayer, etc, or streaming as in streaming ripped dvds/blu rays around your home network with something like Plex or Serviio, including transcoding video?

If the latter, you could consider the AMD Ryzen R7 1700, which I believe is a similar price to the 7700 (this configurator: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/amd-am4-pc/ ), but greatly outperforms it for multithreaded applications such as video encoding. It will also do the job for gaming fine, especially at the entry-mid level.

Is the graphics card sufficient and balanced with the rest of the components, particularly with the monitor?
For gaming, not really. The 1050 ti isn't a particularly powerful card at 1080p and won't get you far at 4k. Even a GTX 1060 costing ~twice as much won't. But you can just run the games at 1080p resolution.

Either way, you may want to consider the RX 470 GPU, as it's a lot more powerful for apparently about £36 in the configurator.

It will therefore likely meet system requirements for new games a good deal further into the future, and let you enjoy games in higher fidelity in the meantime. The 1050ti isn't ideal in terms of performance per £.

I would suggest a better case - something with more room for future upgrades and better cooling options, such as the Inwin G7.

Depending on the budget you may also want to consider an SSD for Windows and your programs. The 128gb SM961 is very fast for an SSD of its size. The PM961 256gb is very fast and not much more expensive for double the storage. You're buying an expensive motherboard with M.2 SSD slots, so you might as well get the benefit of M.2 SSDs.

If you want a cheaper mobo you can spec something up with the H110M-R in this configurator. https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/intel-home-office-pc/
No M.2 slots but you can still have Sata III SSDs.
