Memory upgrade

I decided to upgrade the memory on the system linked below but the new memory isn't being recognised by the PC.

I've put the 2 sticks in the grey slots but they aren't being recognised.

This is the RAM I've bought which I believe matches what is already in the system

[link removed] but it's HyperX FURY DDR4 HX424C15FB2K2/16 Ram Kit 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 2400 MHz DDR4 CL15 DIMM

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

When you say you've put the RAM into the grey slots, were the original two sticks in the other two grey slots?

If you go into the BIOS do they show up there?

Also, have you installed RAM before? It can sometimes need a firmer hand than you might expect to get them to click into place fully.

Original 2 sticks are in the grey slote, the new memory doesnt show in the BIOS either.

I have installed new RAM before so know it can be tricky sometimes to get them in properly.

You could try resetting the BIOS (this will reset any overclocks or custom BIOS settings)

Unplug the computer at the back and switch off the PSU.

Leave it for a minute or so to make sure there's no power. Now somewhere on the motherboard is your CMOS battery which is just a watch battery. Remove this and wait for a minute or two. Pop it back in and then switch on the system. Hopefully this will pick up the new memory.

Failing that, try removing the original memory and put the new memory in those 2 slots to see if they are recognised. If they are recognised then that could potentially mean two dead RAM slots, and if they aren't then the RAM is probably dead.

I have swapped the new memory for the old and everything works so I know the memory is good.

Checking the BIOS I've noticed the following, hopefully you can see the screenhots.

The 1st image is one of the new memory sticks and the 2nd is one of the original, it looks like the system knows the memory is there but doesnt know what size it is.

Ah, I see. I'd wondered if there might be any clues here http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb...0603.pdf?_ga=1.13281399.1329395837.1470903678 but there don't seem to be.

RAM isn't something I know a great deal about. However, I understand that revisions of a given series can be issued, such that the same model number actually means something slightly different. There's the extra D4 at the end of the old RAM's model number, and the tRFC is different.

It's possible that they therefore won't run as quad-channel, or at least won't do so out of the box.

BIOS updated to latest version, memory still not showing.

I have also cleared the BIOS by removing the battery. When I re-booted all the RAM showed, after resetting the date & time and re-booting again only the original RAM showed.

Also checked with memtest86 which is only showing the original RAM.

In your position I might be tempted to return it. If you need the upgrade it might be worth either seeing if PCS can sell you an upgrade that will be guaranteed compatible, or just sourcing a quad channel kit yourself.
