I would take it back to Currys/PC World. It sounds like a dud card to me.

Don't let them fob you off saying it's PCS's problem. It's not, you bought it from Currys/PCWorld and it's their responsibility to either make it work or replace it.

I'm rather late to this party . . .

Not sure if this trick works with a RX 5500 XT, but can you try powering off the PC, disconnecting the monitor from the PC, powering on the PC (without a monitor connected) and then connect your monitor to the PC via HDMI after 10 seconds or so. That may then get a signal to the monitor (it's a workaround work with other graphics card, although I've never tried it with a 5500 XT)

Thanks Rogwal - fixed it in the end by reseating the Graphics card. Must have been slightly dislodged in transit or not clipped in properly during assembly.
