Monitor Problem - Help please

Installled my new computer but for some reason the monitor wont work. Hmm
1. plugged into mains.
2. DVI connection to back of computer.
I have tried it a few times pressed down on the connection to ensure tight fit but still no joy.
Any help appreciated.

Does the machine give you a post beep when you turn it on? Is the monitor displaying a no signal error?
