Motherboard Beep Codes 1 longer, 3 shorter

So I've had my PCSpecialist PC for 3 weeks now and I'm the type of PC user that ignores warnings until something goes wrong.

The PC still boots but after some weird functioning:

1. Power On
2. Lights come on, fans start
3. Everything except the motherboard RGB goes back off
4. Everything kicks in again, RPM of fans accelerate
5. 1 longer beep followed by 3 quick successive beeps.
6. Gets to Windows login after about ~50-60 seconds from powering on from a NVMe
I have a Ryzen Threadripper 2950X with a ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA, Corsair memory & a 2080 super. A quick google tells me it's either the memory or GPU but I've honestly no idea as I'm not tech savvy so assuming I may need to phone them after new year to determine if they need to have a look.

Any insight is helpful.

Firstly, what are your full specs from the order page?

ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X
8GB ASUS ROG STRIX GEFORCE RTX 2080 SUPER
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2933MHz
500GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 (Boot Drive)
1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2
2TB Samsung 860 QVO
CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES

Hmm yea so firstly it takes 1 hour 13 mins per pass so 8 passes is a no go for me, secondly if I'd of persisted with the passes it'd fry my CPU as it was recording a temperature of 98°C .. But it come up with zero errors after 1 pass of this test and windows memory diagnostic tool.

Not sure why the Wraithripper let it exceed to that temperature during the testing.

This is the beep I'm getting which if true and it is simply because my monitor isn't on or connected to VGA then that's ridiculous. This beeping only happens the first start up of the day which is when my monitor is off, if I restart the PC, no problem. If I shutdown the PC and reboot it while the monitor is in idle/sleep mode, no problem.

There are only three BIOS manufacturers (that I know of) that use the 1 long 3 short sequence and one of them (IBM) you won't have, so you need to know which one of these you have...

AMI BIOS it indicates a RAM failure.
AWARD BIOS it indicates a graphics card failure.

In either case first try removing and then replacing either the RAM or the graphics card as appropriate. The free version of Memtest will only do four passes anyway but that's enough to find 99% of all RAM issues. Leave it running overnight...

@SpyderTracks

I've ordered some more thermal paste and will reseat the cooler and reapply paste at the end of the week, it's never reached temps like that before as rendering video the most it's got to is 58.

@ubuysa

I turned my monitor on before powering up the PC and never got those beeps this time around which is the first time I haven't on the first start-up of the day since purchase.

I don't know why it's a thing as hearing those kind of beeps means something is wrong but it seems because the GPU isn't able to send/receive a signal from a monitor through DP (in my case) it's making those beeps. :rolleyes:

I think I have gotten to the bottom of this. If I power on before I power up my monitor I get the beeps. It must be that if it detects no display (whether VGA, HDMI, DP or otherwise) then it will output this beep pattern as it has nothing to output BIOS screen to. Just tested it by making sure monitor was on and ready and I didn't get the beeps.

I've not heard of that before. Interesting. :unsure:

I've even powered down my PC and turned my monitor off to try it again and it gave me the beep codes when the monitor was off upon booting up just now, I myself have never heard of it before but it seems to be mainly on ASUS chipsets according to a lot of my digging around forums yesterday in this particular circumstance.

No idea why it's a thing.
