Moving from Gaming Laptop to Desktop - Just looking for Mid Range

Hi There,

I built my last Desktop about 8 years ago, then when i met my wife i switched to Gaming Laptops - I realised that you can get far more bang for your buck with Desktops.
Currently I use a 2 year old MSI GL72 7RE, but its limited on space and newer games work, but not how i would like.

I have a moderate budget of around £1300 - I did a little research online before i put this together.
I play games all the time - that is its single purpose - but i'm not bothered about 200 FPS at max graphics. I'm happy with mid range graphics. I don't play huge amounts of FPS games, so i don't need the best

My questions would be - would it work well together, and are there areas i have over spec'd or have i left room to make changes in a few years when i need to upgrade, or will i have to just buy again to keep up??
Also i'm a little unsure about wireless config - due to location i have to play wireless, i cant play wired games - is the in built wireless i have chosen sufficient?

Sorry - its a lot of waffle - but thanks for reading

There are loads of (qualified) experts on here, but I have just ordered a similar system so thought I’d reply. I posted an identical thread to you a few days ago but after some careful consideration, made some quite big changes to my build which saved me about £300. This was based on the sticky post linked below which is very useful, particularly if like me, you want to understand what you’re buying and why. Scroll to the bottom of the thread and there are some recommended system configurations.

As someone who has not bought a PC for about 15 years, some things I did not appreciate but which I now know are crucial.

1. Match your monitor to the recommended systems in the thread I have posted. I have just bought a 1440p monitor so went for one of the 1440p recommended setups.
  • 2. The CPU you have chosen is more than enough for games.

  • 3. 16GB Ram is more than enough to run games. I upgraded to 3600MHz based on that thread I posted but I'm not even sure that is necessary.

  • 4. The standard AMD coolers are great so no need to buy a liquid system. I haven’t read anything suggesting you need to upgrade on the standard paste either. Save yourself a few quid to spend elsewhere.

  • 5. That wireless system is the one to go for.
Doesn’t cover all of your questions but I hope it is helpful.
