My GTX260 is faster than this GTX690 Vagas Pro .....

Below is what I posted in a Vegas Pro (Video editing) forum.

There must be something wrong - but I have to be honest and say that I'm not overwhelmed by the speed of this set up !!

I have just had a new system built by PC Specialist (UK):-

OLD SYSTEM

Dell Studio XPS Motherboard
i7 CPU 880 @ 3.07 GHz
8GB RAM
GeForce GTX260 GPU
2TB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Home Premium

NEW SYSTEM

Asus Sabertooth X79 Motherboard
i7-3930K CPU @3.20 GHz
32GB RAM
GeForce GTX690 GPU
Intel 480GB 520 series SSD Hard Drive (Boot and programs)
Windows 7 Professional
Caviar Black 2TB Hard Drive (User Files)

Using Sony Vega Pro 11 (not an upgrade from Vegas 10), I opened identical files of c120GB (approx 1hour 20mins HD footage) footage taken at Sydney Mardi Gras this year on both computers. Then set them both rendering to HDV 1080-50i MPEG-2 files.

After the renders reach 4%, the clock starts counting down stating how long to complete the render.

The old computer reached this 'tip-over' point at 3.45mins and indicated 1 hour 27 mins to finish.
The new computer reached this 'tip-over' point at 3.55mins and indicated 1 hour 35 mins to finish.

I tired this several times thinking it might be an anomaly - but the above was the best time the new computer achieved (the worst was 1 hour 57 mins)

For those with knowledge of Vegas Pro, I had ensured that GPU Acceleration was selected in the OPTIONS/PREFERENCES/VIDEO and that the GTX690 was showing in that tab.

Anyone got any ideas? ...... I'm at a loss ...... surely it has to be something really **** ???

BAny comments or suggestions gratefully received

Roy

What nvidia drivers are you using at the moment? You could try a clean install with 301.42 as well as the new beta drivers to see if there is a difference.

When you do a 3dM11 test with your 690 does it show as being 1 card or 2??

Do you have PCIE set in your BIOS as you main card?

When I first put mu 690 in the settings where wrong and so only 1 card was showing.

Do a 3DM 11 test and have a look at the results and post back please.

To be honest, even with just one core enabled gtx 690 should beat gtx260 by a mile - disregarding the fact that they designed it plainly for gaming.

Yes I know that mate but when I first installed my 690 with the incorrect settings and a dodgy beta driver my 690 also gave crappy fps and results in 3DM 11 along with some PS issues, and as Ruben asked about the drivers already It would be helpful to grab a 3DM result and see whats going on. Also a GPU-Z screenshot would be helpful.

Hi gays - thanks for your replies - answers are below:-

@rubensolo - driver installed is the 301.42 (there is a beta driver 304.48 which I shall try later)

@ buzz - 3dM11 scores as follows - Overall P14373; Graphics P17006; Physics P10558i; Combined P8878 ..... Test ID 3760261
The test identified the card as GTX 690(2x) and Intel i7-3930k processor

I tried to upload screenshots of the results but upload said they failed (tried as .bmp and as .jpg)

I have not checked the BIOS yet (as to be honest not sure what I'm looking for!!)

Hi Buzz - tried to attach (in advanced mode) the GPU Z Screenshots (! = upload failed)
Also tried to insert the screen shots from here (! = Underdefined)

Not sure why the site isn't accepting my uploads - and advice?

I also sent a msh earlier (from advanced mode) as I tried to insert screenshots from the 3dM11 benchmark. Not sure why that has not appeared. Summery of results was as follows:-

Overall = P14373; Graphics = P17006; Physical = P19558; Combined = P8878 ...... Benchmark detected the GPU as GTX690 (2x) CPU Intel 3930K
ID for benchmark is 3760261

Hope that helps

I've always found it easier to upload the pics to somewhere like flickr and then link to them rather than actually upload pictures from my PC.

Try just enclosing the link of your results.
To access the PCI Express settings, press delete when you get the ASUS logo then go to advanced then onboard device configuration and check the settings in PCI Express.
