My new 15.6" Optimus V

It's a great laptop. I only have a few minor gripes with the build quality. The screen borders are made of poorly made cheap looking glossy plastic. The back panel of the screen which seems to be made of aluminum is paper thin and is very bendy.

The other problem I had with the laptop is the driver support. I explicitly stated I wanted to install Windows 7 on it, and to PC Specialist's credit, it did come installed with a Home Premium trial edition. However, when I installed my own copy, I found that the driver disk was just completely incompatible with Windows 7. Searching online for drivers by myself was a complete and total nightmare which was made worse by a drivers list which listed drivers for devices which didn't even exist inside my machine.

I had to finally force myself to purchase Windows 8 which led to me to discover that, in turn, the wifi card's drivers were incompatible with it. So I had to go online and find the drivers for that.

Other than that, the hardware itself performs great. The laptop runs really smoothly. The performance is great for gaming and CAD engineering work. The audio by ONKYO is superb. The keyboard is very comfortable and easy to get used to. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. It is very quiet thanks to the reduced ventilation need of the 4th generation haswell processors.

For its price range, you won't be able to find any competitor who can beat this laptop on performance and form factor.

The only downside is - this has to be a Windows 8 machine unless you want to spend a few days hunting drivers for Windows 7 and have very thorough understanding of what the laptop needs to run smoothly.

I have an 17 inch Optimus, an excellent machine I am very happy with.

However, there are a few things I would disagree with what you say or offer my opinion on at least.

First, the onkyo speakers aren't very good. They work, but the sound is quite poor for a lot of us. If you are happy with
them then good for you!

Second, I have a glossy screen not matte, but I do not know what plastic bits (the bezels?) you are talking about. It is an excellent screen though. I've
never owned a laptop that didn't have some give in the screen.

Third, they can be noisy, but no more so than other laptops I've owned really.

Fourth, I've installed both w7 & 8.1 on my Optimus, currently have 8.1 as my main os, you are correct that the driver disk isn't
brilliant, but it's no problem to have w7 running on it either, you shouldn't have many issues getting drivers really. Clevo's driver
page is all w8 / 8.1 drivers, but if you go to individual manufacturers websites you will find the drivers you need.

Anyway, welcome to the forums and glad you like your machine, they are excellent laptops especially for the price.
