My New and First Gaming PC Build (Advice)

I am looking for buying either a new gaming PC or laptop, I am hoping for a desktop but the space could possibly be an issue. Anyways I haven’t had a computer in over 5 years, as I never really needed one (you can see why I’ll need help with the specs). I plan on using this computer for games such as Fallout and Skyrim, where I can use PC superiority to enhance the game, I will also be using the PC for video editing as I’ve always been interested in it. Please review this spec and let me know what you think... and again remember I haven’t had a computer in years so please be nice

Welcome to the forums :)

The build above is not well balanced and it's poor value for money - but the good news is that means it will be possible to net you something better and/or both better and cheaper!

What's your budget, including the monitor and KB + M etc?

Thank you for the reply! And £1300 at the most. I’m not to worried about the mouse, keyboard and monitor as of yet, as I will be looking to purchase better quality ones at a later date (just trying to get the PC brought first) so I’m willing have anything.

How much are you intending to spend on your better monitor and when will you get it?

The reason I ask is that if you buy a £200 graphics card that's fine for 1080p gaming, but in 3 months you're getting a 1440p 144hz gsync monitor with all the trimmings, you'll want a better GPU for that and arguably your £200 GPU will have been a waste.

Equally if you don't get an ultra swanky monitor until a year's time but buy a £500 GTX 1080 to "futureproof" for it today - that too will have been a waste as it's overkill for now and in a year will have been replaced with something better.

So, give or take, what are your upgrade plans in terms of budget and timeframe? :) So we can have a stab at finding the best balance and bang for your buck.

£150 won't buy you much of an upgrade over a £100-£120 monitor like that Samsung. £200 or so would get you a 144hz 1080p monitor.

Which you can actually just buy outright now anyway:

The i5 8400 is newer than the 7740x and gives the same performance for a lot less cash.
Faster RAM can have big benefits in some titles
The GTX 1060 is way more powerful than the GTX 1050 ti
The 256gb PM961 SSD is larger and much, much faster than the UV400
You'll want a cheap CPU cooler like the Titan over the stock Intel cooler

The AOC G2460PF is a 144hz monitor.

Do you know what actually I completely forgot about the monitor I had selected And from your reasons this seems so much better! And slightly cheaper! Thank you for all your help!
