So I got a desktop 3 years back and am wondering if my processor is holding me back now -
i5 3570k overclocked
8GB RAM
ASUS sabertooth motherboard
GTX TITAN

If so, what would you recommend in the i7 range

Yo, I use it for gaming, I like by both demanding and none demanding games etc plus 1 rep for replying to thread so soon after i posted :)

For gaming then an i5 6600 is the sweetspot, you won't get any performance increase from an i7 or overclocking particularly, except for a handful of games.

If you really want an i7, then i guess the 6700 is the one to go for.

You'd have to get a new motherboard also.

ok thanks, would the new motherboard be for the i7? and what games for example would you say need an i7 for best results?

Either chip would need a new motherboard as they're a different socket type.

Cpu intensive games are things like flight sims, or poorly optimised games like dayz.
