My 'proposed' New PC after 10 years 'out-of-the-loop'?

Hi all - I've been quite happy with my old 10 year old PC ([email protected]) but after a nightmare 'upgrade to Windows 10' experience and frequent BSOD crashes I quickly accepted that I could not take this PC into the Windows 10 world, and with Win7 coming to it's natural end - I now need to get a New PC that will take me into the next decade;

Initially I toyed with the idea of getting a Ryzen 9 3950x but realised this was overkill for my occasional Video Editing & Photoshop hobbies (don't really play any demanding games)... I could afford the 2k it was coming out at, but really I'm quite happy to stick around the £1,500 mark or slightly above with this spec below.

So is the following okay?....

My main questions are; do I need that powerful liquid CPU cooler with the Ryzen 7 and any other suggestions if not?... I don't mind the PC case I have chosen (mainly to fit the cooler, but would be happy with choosing another case if I can change to a smaller cooler)
I've have a 1TB HDD and 250GB SSD I'm transferring from my current PC.

Hi All

Previous to my original spec I have changed to a different CASE (K500) and changed the cooler to h100x from H115i - will this cooler be sufficient for the Ryzen 7 3700x (I don't plan to overclock)...also is the GPU okay for video/image editing (not playing games) or a bit overkill....and if so any suggestions on a GPU sufficient for video/image editing...

Cheers in advance

The GPU is 'okay' in that there are scenarios where it could conceivably be used and somewhat more beneficial than cheaper alternatives - the question is how likely you are to run into them and if it's worth the price:

Note how heavily they had to stack the benchmark to start seeing substantial differences between the various GPUs.

If that's something you actually do, then it's valid for you, but if not, then cheaper is an option.

Also, the motherboard looks like a waste of money. The Asus PLUS should be generously more than enough. And with an R7 3700x there's an argument for just sticking to the B450 board and saving yet another £100 on top.

You could fit an R9 3900x and various bits in for the £1600 or so mark

Fractal case as it's a better case overall. Though for R7 + weaker GPU the K500 would be fine easily.
H100i cooler as if you're buying the H100x plus better fans you might as well get the H100i and its even better fans for a few more quid.

B450 mobo because not much point arguably to X570.
mid range cooler, fine for stock 3700x
SSD gives more GB per £ and is decent
less expensive GPU still

Thanks Oussebon for your suggestions;

The cost saving option looks attractive but I'm quite happy with your first option... I didn't think I could go to a Ryzen 9 39...& 16>32GB Memory for just £50 more than my specification. I guess the on-board sound 'SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC S1220A' attracted me to the ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING m/b... but the 'Realtek S1200A' audio will still be decent for the ASUS® TUF X570-PLUS GAMING m/b?

Initially I was going to get the Ryzen 7 CPU and then upgrade to a Ryzen 9 when the prices came down in a few years but might be best to aim high and future proof until I need another new pc entirely.

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll give them some careful consideration tomorrow...cheers.
