Maybe I am missing something. You want a new computer just to use as a NAS?

I thought the idea of freeNAS was that you could drag that old computer out from the back of the shed, unearth a few unused drives from the bottom drawer of the desk, and make yourself a free (or very cheap) server. What you are doing is building a very expensive 2TB NAS.

Alternatively, you could probably buy a WD My Cloud 4TB NAS for about £130 or, a bit more expensive, something like a netgear case with a choice of proper RED NAS drives.

would an old and k-6 prosesor run it? Also would it run with 512mb of ram, if this is the case then ok great I will pull my mums old pc out of the cubbord, that would be ace if it did.
PS. I can't remember how to spell cubbord.
