Need new Gaming PC

Hey guys,

Seems like the 512gb SM is at the end of life cycle according to some websites so I am just going to go for the PM 512gb m2.

Looking to order tonight so these are my final two builds if you can give some input. (the intel one is basically what we discussed before so not expecting much on that).

I have been interested in the look and performance of the new AMD but wondering for pure gaming is it worth the extra money for the new motherboard and CPU while trading down on the RAM quality?

Noctua isn't available for the AMD so went with another cooling system. So if you could give me some final pointers or opinions on the AMD build - motherboard, cpu and cooler primarily it would be appreciated. Dont mind paying the extra for the AMD as long as it is worth it.

Again your help has been stellar as always.

I don't think it would be worth it for gaming in all honesty. That said, you may want to wait for reviews to come out (NDA lists 2nd March I think).

Hmmm really wanted to order sooner rather than later but I guess I shall wait another week to see what the word is :)

On the build itself would you tweak anything or look fine?

Cheers,

They look fine. The choice of cooler for Ryzen on the PCS menu is extremely limited at the moment, I assume because they haven't got mounting brackets for the new motherboards yet. I'd go for the Noctua over the H60 Hydro if it were available. Perhaps it will be by the tie you come order the Ryzen build, if that's what you decide following benchmark and review publication.

Yeah the memory available seems limited too at the moment. I will hold off for the benchmark publication then and see what is what. Would by far prefer the Noctua and some better Ram but we shall see.

Again thanks for all your help.

Went with the i7. Couldnt see the value in the Ryzen for gaming for the extra 2-300 with subpar RAM.

Ordered this. Cheers again :)

We love you Ukraine
Just to make you aware, Intel have just made pretty major price decreases in the states on 7th and 6th gen cpu's after the Ryzen announcement, not sure if that's filtered through to PCS yet, but it's bound to be coming!

Thanks for the heads up but I waited long enough and got impatient :) I was tempted to swap in a liquid cooler (h80i or H100i) for looks but went for Noctua based on feedback. Unless anyone thinks I should amend it to a liquid cooler for when I overclock? Especially considering I have a windowed case :)

Personally I can't stand the look of the noctua. It's a great cooler but I can't see past that brown. The h100i is fantastic but more expensive. I have had a very comfortable 4.8 clock although I keep it lower for everyday use right now. The problem with the corsair is the noise. At full tilt it is atrocious. I did not have the option of the quieter fans but modified the setup myself. I also did not like the fact PCS configured it to extract from the top. Defeated the point of a quiet case. Mine now is setup as a front intake.

I have just seen the Noctua in a black window case, I see your point it looks terrible. Will be swapping for H80i v2 or H100i v2 unsure which, should I just fork out for the H100i v2 or is the H80i v2 just as good?

The H100iV2 is markedly better, the H80i is no better than the Noctua.

See Oussebon this is why I like you, tell it straight like it is :) Will change to the H100i V2 then as the Noctua just looks terrible for a clear case :( I assume the extra quiet fans are a must?

Yes. With any luck PCS will give you the moduvent covers so you can change the positioning of the cooler as Jerpers did.

Yeah have just processed the change, £50 well spent I think. Thanks again so much for your advice, can't wait for it now :)
