What monitor is it being paired with, I know you say 1080p but what refresh rate? Or make and model if you're unsure?

Just edited a little, lowered GPU to 1650 Super as 1660 is overpowered for 60Hz, upped RAM to RGB 16Gb 3200MHz as Ryzen likes speed and 16Gb is really the optimum for gaming. Added storage drive also as comes in handy. Otherwise it's perfect and the PSU allows for room to add a more powerful GPU in the future, great build:

My son has just asked me to tell you he currently has a 1060 3gb card and it hardly plays the games he has like Rainbow Six Seige, GTA V and Tomb Raider, would the 1650 super mange those games? sorry to be a bother I just want it to be right before I order, he also has a 1Tb hard drive in his old PC.

The 1060 should be maxxing those games fine at 1080p 60Hz, if they're struggling it's because there's a problem with windows or drivers. I'd suggest a fresh windows installation, also if he has GeForce experience installed, make sure that's not auto applying graphical settings as it will always unecessarily nerf the performance. Also make sure RTX is disabled, things like that, but that card should be perfectly adequate for that screen.

For example, on the 1060, 1% lows are 45fps, the average being 55. No need for replacing that computer, unless the platform is seriously outdated.

He's done a fresh install but still no good, his processor is a i5 7400 could that be the problem? my son really would like a new PC so could he be telling me porkies lol

Processor is absolutely fine. There’s no reason that system won’t be maxing out that screen unless it’s not setup correctly or there are thermal issues or something like that. Pointless replacing it, wouldn’t be any better at a budget of 1k

Thank you for being so honest, so I'm best not upgrading then?
Absolutely no point to upgrading, wouldn't give any difference. The bottleneck on that system isn't the system, it's the monitor. To get a meaningful upgrade you'd need to spend about £1700 on a 1440p build and monitor.

Even if it does start losing performance in a couple of years, you don't buy a whole new system, you just upgrade what you've already got. A gaming PC will last for around 7 years before you need to start thinking about buyiing a replacement, before that time, you just upgrade the GPU for a more powerful one, and the monitor, those are going to be the bottlenecks further on down the line

Thanks again,

his brother has just got a new monitor an Alienware 240Hz 1080P using it on my Proteus V Laptop so I think he's trying his luck for a new system lol, I maybe get him a monitor instead.

Cheeky little devil! To be fair, I would have done exactly the same thing!!! :ROFLMAO:

lol, do you think a monitor would be just fine then?
If you got a monitor, then you’d need a gpu as well to account for it.

mid getting a new monitor, unless he’s playing competitively, 1440p is a far greater improvement than anything 1080p. 1080p is 20 years old and a sever compromise in today’s gaming, should be looking at 1440p 144hz as a bog standard but obviously it all comes at a higher cost.

1080p 144hz I guess if you’re on a serious budget, but it’s a bit of a waste imho.
