I'd be more worried about the motherboard and that CPU. The CPU will burn a hole in that motherboard

As for the cooler that would depend on the case to be honest to see if it would fit

Ah ok, well its a pretty big case, currently has a lot of free space so I'd assume it's fine (PCS SPECTRUM RGB MID TOWER CASE)

And yes that pairing was a mistake, but It's lasted for over a year now, just looking for an upgrade for it until I save up enough for a much better computer, unless there are other upgrades you can recommend to make it last longer?

I would need to see the full spec to be able to make recommendations on changes but even then I would be reluctant

The motherboard isn't easily fixed I know but it's going to become a bigger problem as time goes. You certainly wont be getting the best performance possible from the 3900x

But yeah the H100i should fit into the Spectrum but I feel this is more a bandaid for a gaping wound which I know isn't what you want to hear

Yes I've been told that before, but not been told anything I can do to fix that, other than this bandaid to help a small amount.
I'll be getting a 'better' one in a year or two when I can afford it

You can get another motherboard, you would need to transfer all the parts across right enough but it's the best option.

The 3900x is still a brilliant CPU so it's worth preserving if possible, like I said if I seen the whole build I can help with suggestions but step 1 to saving this build is to move it all to another motherboard

If I can get more out of it with that then I'm willing to try, what specs do you need for a suggestion? I copied my order and edited the original post, anything missing from that?

Just to creep in and be Captain Boring, be aware that going down this route would have an inexorable effect on your warranty, according to article 7.9 of the terms and conditions:

We reserve the right to suspend the warranty or refuse service if your Case, Motherboard, CPU or BIOS have been replaced without authorisation.

That being said, I think a change of case, motherboard, cooler and potentially the PSU could salvage this system and make it last a fair few years, if you were willing to chance it.

Yeah looking at the updated OP there isn't much to change, the only things that stand out are the RAM and the Intel M.2. Of course changing the CPU cooler as well as mentioned before in the thread

Ryzen CPU's like the fastest RAM they can get and 3200Mhz is usually my minimum I would recommend but I'm not sure how much benefit you would see from changed the 3000Mhz to 3200Mhz to be honest. I think it's fine

The Intel M.2 particularly the 660p is known to have poor write endurance. It's known the fail quite quickly compared to other M.2 SSD's, it my worth changing it to the Intel 670p for a like for like but one that's faster and has better write endurance

Other than that the only real problem I see is the motherboard and sorry for beating a dead horse on that front.

Changing the case wouldn't be a bad idea either though, for good budget proven cases I like the Corsair 4000D but the Fractal Focus G is also a forum favourite for solid budget case

550W PSU should be fine for your parts, I would like 650W minimum but that's just me thinking for future GPU upgrades. The 550W TXm is adequate I would say

Okay thank you, I'll look into that case, and buy the new cooling,

when it comes to further help, is there a motherboard you'd recommend if I decided to take that risk?

Performance-wise I'm fine with my PC the way it performs now, I don't game but do CGI work instead, my only priority is making sure the computer can last and won't leave me stranded with my work and livelihood. I depend on my computer for my work and future so I'm hesitant to put it at risk, but also don't want to leave it to burn itself out either. But thinking about losing my warranty when it has two years left is a big risk for me too, I guess it's deciding whether to rely on the warranty replacing it when it brakes or try make it last those two years + with an upgrade.

Do you know if just adding this cooling system would get rid of the warranty?

If you want to keep the warranty you can contact PCS and maybe see if they could change the motherboard for you? I'm not sure if that's something they offer but it's worth asking

As for the motherboard I personally would recommend the X570-TUF minimum but ideally the X570 Strixx would be good for that CPU

At the minute the machine is ticking time bomb, you're basically waiting for that motherboard to finally have enough and just give up unfortunately

I think first step is to give PCS a ring and see what they say

EDIT: Changing your cooling will not void your warranty either

Potentially, if a problem arose… terms and conditions state:

If you install components that are not purchased from us and they cause problems with your computer, your warranty will be void.

If you purchased the cooler from PCS via the upgrade section in your account, they would offer support.

If you find out that AIO does fit, can I suggest going for the newer, better, but cheaper, Capellix version.

hey guys! i was told getting a cooler would be a good step to help my PC, I was wondering which cooler would be the best option and if there were any specifications on how it fits?

This was the cooler I was thinking of: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/compu...d-240-mm-cpu-cooler-rgb-led-10205031-pdt.html

note: this is a PC I've had for a while but can't yet upgrade to a new one, I just need help with keeping it alive and working with a lot of 3D rendering for a few years more.

Yeah, would be an awesome cooler for that PC. I don't think it will take anything bigger than a 240mm radiator in the top, so it's probably actually the best cooler you can get in the case. The only "upgrade" you could go for would be to go for the Elite Capellix model, which has RGB fans. But you might well not care about that!

You can also buy it through the PCS upgrade system, though it is a touch more expensive.

Hey, so I bought the new cooler and everything is fine with that. However whoever screwed in the old stock AMD cooler screwed it too tight, and the final spring screw won't come loose no matter what we try. Now the old one cant go back on because the seal is broken and can't come completely off, so i can no longer use it.

Is there anyone familiar this these spring screws or stuck screws that could help? do I call PC specialist about this?

Raise it with PCS.

It may be too late but it's critical that you use the correct type of screwdriver when removing PC components. The screwdriver size will be surprisingly big, too often people think a smaller screwdriver is required. I think it's PH rather than PZ as well.

Using the other screws that you have removed, find a screwdriver that fits snug. Snug enough to the point when you put it in, the screw remains firm and doesn't fall off. Once you have that driver, get an elastic band and put it over the screw that you are struggling with. Put a decent amount of purchase behind it and it should unscrew. If it doesn't, you're going to need to return the PC to get someone to remove it, it's not something you want to go further with on your own.
