New Elimina Pro

I ordered and paid for an Olympus 17.3” laptop on 16 February 2021. The Elimina Pro 17.3" laptop arrived on 15 April 2021 at an additional cost of 238 euros. That's not a misprint.

After first being told that the Olympus laptop would arrive in 10 days, the delivery date kept being pushed back with periodic email updates - no graphics card in stock, among other excuses. Finally, the updates stopped coming and I had to send emails to find out what was going on. By early April, they admitted that the missing components wouldn't be available for an additional several months, ask for a refund or change your order. The closest to my configuration was the Elimina Pro, which was more expensive, and which offered no additional value to me. I asked if they could make some goodwill gesture, but please, don't offer me games, I don't play them. They offered me games. I was then abruptly informed that I could send a formal complaint, which I did. I suggested a 50 euro coupon for redemption at their site would be the least I would expect. They returned with 37 euros and a game- another 13 euros would have killed them? Rotten way to do business, and not a one-off. Read the forums at the French site and you'll find buyers who experienced the same scenario and made out worse than I did.

As for the Elimina Pro, so far I am pleased. It is silent and relatively powerful. I use an external monitor and speakers, so I can't speak about them. I was encouraged by the UK forum to select a larger OS drive than the secondary SSD and I stupidly heeded that advice. I would prefer to keep the first drive solely for the OS, but that's not your concern. One thing I didn't like about the laptop from the start is the keyboard. I like the responsiveness and feel of the keys, but the 'delete' key is oddly placed, and the left 'shift' key is too small - the same size as the letters. I'm finding that it's not that difficult to adjust to, however. I had one blue screen crash since I received the laptop and none since, so I'm hoping that was a one-off. Otherwise, this appears to be a nice laptop, but this is only after a couple weeks of use.

It's too bad that the purchase experience was such a nightmare. PCSpecialist seem to be concerned about quantity vs. quality of sales, foregoing customer loyalty. After the nightmare experience I went through in purchasing this laptop, I doubt they will be my first choice next time. Sure, I could have canceled my order, but for certain practical reasons, which I won't bore you with, that was not a desirable option.

Sorry to hear about your travails.

Is that extra €€€ due to VAT being added - as I assume you've bought it from PCS VAT-free (so saved €€€ there) and had to pay VAT on arrival in your country?

If you have 2 m.2. SSDs, then PCS will normally install the OS on the fastest one - and this can mean the larger of the 2 installed as the larger ones usually list slightly faster speeds (only talking about 100-200mbps) - UNLESS you tell PCS otherwise!

To be fair, I can't say I notice any difference in the keyboard to my last lot of HP/Lenovo work laptops...and most of the other 17.3" laptops I can see including the Optimus (I can't see an Olympus) looks to have the same keyboard spacing/sizing.

...and that layout is identical to my current HP Z-Book.
