Hi I'm thinking about upgrading my reliable 6 year old PCS system that originally held a GTX580 when they were a flag ship model.....

I have no real idea of the current hardware available so I'm hear for some advice, my spend limit is £2k ish, BTW I'm a intel/Nvidia user of old and would like to stay that way unless the competition has come on alot?......

I game at 2k on a 27" monitor playing mainly RTS and shooters so I guess I need a GTX 1060/70 for ultra settings?

I watch movies on a 55" Pani smart TV via HDMI to my AV setup,

I need alot of storage(4tb min) and obviously a decent SSD(500 ish GB)

I also need a soundcard for my true 5.1 headphones?

I would like a tower that is cool, quiet and has a slot for a bluray drive etc

I think thats about it?

Many Thx in advance.......

SpyderTracks

We love you Ukraine
I would suggest a gtx1080 for future proofing at 2k, pairs up with my 2k 144hz gsync perfectly but there are some newer titles that push it even at 2k.

Can you not take your storage out of your current build to put in the new or is it being passed on / still used?

Thx Keynes, I need the S.C for the 5.1 headset, my PC speakers will go into the mobo connectors and HDMI from Gfx card to Amp?? I think that how I set my current PC up?

Are the M.2 SSD Drive better than the PCI-E SSD Drives?

I've just updated the HHD to a 4TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA PRO is the extra spend worth it? and I've updated the ssd to a 500GB SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 and the price is still under £2k

Yes SpyderTracks my old PC will be the kids new PC.....so yes I could alter the storage though I probably won't bother? though I like the idea of the 1080 as it only takes me £100 over?? I'll sweet talk my Mrs.....

The competition has come on a lot, but at the moment for general gaming Intel/Nvidia are still the highest options.

Intel are launching Coffee Lake CPUs from Monday so it may be worth waiting to see what that does in terms of performance and the price of Kaby Lake.

The Samsung m2 is a decent drive, but once you have an SSD getting a hybrid is a waste, they only have a small SSD cache and you cannot control what it uses. You can get a 5TB 7200rpm SATA HDD cheaper than the 4TB Seagate hybrid.

So the m2 drives are better than the pci-e drives?
and the HHD I suggested is a standard 7200 HHD not a hybrid? thou I currently have a 4td hybrid and I find its fairly fast once it wakes up?

Yes. Some of the m.2 drives currently available (Samsung brand) have higher read speeds than the PCI-e cards. Plus, the form factor is an advantage too, as m.2 is flush with the motherboard and does not impede air flow.

For SSDs, speeds vary dramatically, depending on what you're doing. Read is very fast, and writing is fast as long as you do not exceed cache sizes (around 13GB on some Samsung models, 24GB on PRO models). If you write a lot of data, write speed will drop to SATA levels.
Similar performance boost can be observed for the SSHDs: the SSD acts as a cache for the HDD. However, reading large amounts of data from the disk will drop to SATA speeds.

I just saw Seagate and assumed it was their Hybrid junk. Nevertheless you can still get 5TB 7200rpm cheaper then 4TB and the SATA drives are fine. If it was a USB storage drive I would be totally for it but Seagate do not have a great record for internal drives from my experience, bog standard is OK with them but would not spend extra cash on their "quicker" stuff.
