New gaming laptop spec help need

Hi,

So my old Vortex laptop died last week and I now need a new laptop. I use it for gaming - don't need the games to be at max settings but do want it kinda futureproofed to keep me gaming for years to come. My Vortex lasted seven years, and apart from not running the new Assassin's Creed because of the graphics card, it ran everything else fine (though was slowing up at the end :) )

I've read that AMD is a better option than Intel, but there's only a couple of laptops that use the AMD processor, and they are also not able to be configured with the higher 16GB graphics card. I've put together three builds and would like some advice on what to change.

I'll get another SSD drive (my old one is a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW) - so thinking that'll probably be too slow now?)

I'll be installing Windows 10. Max budget is probably around £2500

Thanks in advance

Hello,
I'm not a pro, but, as i read this forum since long time, i advise you to take the recoil, because it's a clevo chassis
I'm having one myself, and it's pretty good, sturdy and the cooling solution is good

I think the recoil, as it's the bigger chassis will be the better for the futur "hot" days ;)

and, some advice for your build, i think the i7-11700k is good enough, and with the saved money, you should upgrad to the 3070
(if you can, you may want to take the 2933 mhz ram)

after that, i think the other "pro" member will/may give you more or better advice ;)

Thanks for that, though the reason I have the 3060 in that configuration is that the 3070/80 are out of stock and not due in till at least August... But the 3080 is available with the Ionico build..

Remember that ionico can't push the 3080 to the max. It can reach 140W (like the 3070) when the 3080 can reach 150-165W in different chassis.

Ah, I didn't know that. So you think I should go for the recoil and just wait for the 3080 to come back in stock (though not sure why it's available in the ionico build and not the recoil build at the moment)?

GPUs on laptops are not modular additions, they’re an entry rated part of the motherboard which is particular to the chassis.

I will pick the valeon with the 3070 or the recoil with a 3080. But remember also that Recoil is a Desktop replacement so it has 2 power supply and a desktop CPU and other things that other laptop doesn't have. But it's a lot bigger and it's not very portable. For pure power I will choose the recoil, for an all-around laptop I will choose the valeon.

Thanks for all the info so far.

I'm now thinking the Ionico but the AMD CPU, as it's got the bigger battery comapred to the Valeon

So the only questions I have now are regarding the RAM and the SSD:

Is it worth getting 64GB RAM with 2x32GB 2666mhz, or just go for the 2x16GB of the faster 2933mhz?

As for the SSD's I'm wanting two, one for the OS/Software, and one for data/games. Thinking 1TB each but no idea what the real difference is between the choices are, so any advice on which ones to go for would be appreciated.

You don’t need more than 16Gb of RAM for gaming. If you want then get 32Gb but 64Gb is entirely pointless. 32gb will never be used in the lifetime of the laptop.

I believe dave 3d and Jarrod tech has both reviewed Valeon - or promotheus its called - fast but it can get hot and crap battery as you said.

Ionico has been reviewed here - bear in mind its tongfang chasis - but intel - check the vid out in show off your laptop section but i would defo go amd instead - also you really need 3080? 3070 seems to be the sweet spot - cost to performance ratio. also future proof and would handle all aa games.

you can add extra storage - i.e or add faster boot drive and lower 2nd drive. or add it your self - may be cheaper to do
