Hi! I bought a PC from PC Specialist 10 years ago, and it's started to be left behind a bit (although still doing an astounding job... the 4790k is an excellent CPU!).

I'm looking at buying something nice, and have come up with the below. Not sure on the number of fans, whether the motherboard is good enough or if it is worth paying for a better one and getting better RAM (I believe the one I chose only allows up to 5600mhz RAM so that's why I chose that one.

Anyway, that's a lot of writing, so build to follow, and feedback welcome please!

Hiya, can you include the configurable link at the bottom of the quote?

I’ve only just upgraded from my 4th gen i7 too, imho they were the last of the great intel processors before skylake where it was the same chip for 7 years or something as there was no competition so Intel just sat on their arses and didn’t bother releasing anything new for years.

Intel are now the awful processors that you run a mile from, impossible to cool, use 3 times the power for less performance and still crazy expensive. Except in extremely niche use cases, AMD are far superior.

What’s your max budget?

What make and model monitor are you using?

I've included the link in the original post as you suggested. Thanks.

The monitor is nothing special, but it'll be connecting to the new TV as well, one of the new Samsung Q-OLEDs coming out soon, so 4k, 144hz, and I'll probably be getting a Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo at some point in the near future.

Budget is probably around the £4000 mark, give or take a few hundred.

Apologies, forgot to ask, is it purely for gaming? No other uses like streaming or any rendering?

Nah just gaming.

Interestingly enough I just recreated the build but in the "overclocked pc's" section and it knocked £100 off the price. Bizarre.

Not sure what I've done wrong, or right, with that one.

That's interesting. I have never looked outside Intel. Certainly something to consider. Why did you downgrade from the 150i to the 115i?

And the H100i is quite small and would almost look lost in a case the size of the 5000X. Any of these choices are technically overkill for the 7800X3D. The 14900KS you selected initially needs all the cooling it can possibly get: the AMD chip simply doesn't.

The only reason I'd go for the H150i is if you really liked the RGB fan look and were going to get another three fans to go on the side panel intake. That would be a purely aesthetic choice as it would do nothing at all for cooling.
