New Gaming Rig

Hi folks,

After a decade or so I'm looking to get myself a new pc so it doesn't sound like a jet's taking off everytime I load up Subnautica (and every other game I try to run really). Made my budget £2000 max, so I can afford to get a new monitor and speakers.

I've put together the following spec with high tier gaming in mind, as future proof as anything can be without breaking the bank. Probably looking at 1440p monitor with high refresh rate, or potentially 4k if my budget allows (I'm currently on a 1680 x 1050, just to give you an idea of how far behind the times I am). I've also tried to make it with low noise output.

The main issues I was struggling with were the following:

GPU - I'm pretty happy with what I've picked having looked at the forum guides, so just to confirm I'm not massively missing out by not going for the RTX 3080

Case - I'm torn between my pick or the Define 7, as I'd like a quiet build. However it occured to me that perhaps a case with larger fans might be more beneficial, which leads into...

Cooling: I was all set for liquid cooling, but then viewed This video from Linus Tech suggesting otherwise.

Monitor: Any suggestions for this build would be great

Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated

Hi there. You've done a decent job on the build there, not much to change really... except the parts you were already querying.

The Fractal case is superior to the Silencio, would definitely recommend sticking with that one. As for the Linus video, I and others are not big fans of that one. It doesn't accurately reflect the average user's real world scenario and with a 'quiet' case you'll want the best cooling you can get. An AIO is much more efficient at drawing heat away from the CPU. I've also noted that in his own personal system... he uses a liquid cooler.

Anyway, here's my revision of the spec for you to cast your eyes over...

As for the monitor, would highly recommend 1440p ultrawide, I've recently invested in this model paired up with a 3070 and its such a glorious experience.

Many thanks Agent Cooper, your country owes you a great debt!

I'm very much inclined to take it as is, but I'm just wondering about the 1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD. It's a lower speed compared to the others, am I correct in assuming I won't notice under real world conditions? Or is it worth going over budget for a brand?

The PCS M.2 is a great little drive, I've 2 in my desktop (1 as system drive) and another in my laptop as a system drive

The important one is the 500GB Samsung 980, just keep your OS and programs on that and you'll have a system that boots to your home screen in seconds. The 1TB PCS drive is just fast storage for your games and you honestly wouldn't notice THAT much of a difference in load times between them. The PCS drives are brilliant value and have good write endurance so it seems like spending extra for not much benefit to go for a brand.
