New Keyboard and Mouse

So I have a brand new, wonderful and amazingly fast PC from PCS! However, I still have my crappy wired acer mouse and keyboard which pains me so.

I'm sick of all these wires hanging around my desk and was wondering what would be a good keyboard and mouse combo to go for. I mainly only want ones that don't eat power like crazy and have a long life before replacement batteries. Any recomendations?

Personally I like wired keyboards and mice, means they wont run out of power whilst I'm gaming

(well they could run out of power, but if they do, the PC has no power either so its a moot point)

I'd always go wired. Its only 2 small wires and they don't really get in the way once you've got them tucked away.
The keyboard I'm using is ancient XD Same one that came with my original emachines PC lol Its actually a cracking keyboard, far better than the PC! Nice layout and handy media buttons. I'm suprised that its never actually broken and that all the letters are still intact and un-worn! It really is years old. They definitely did well with it.
As for my mouse, I recently picked one up from play.com, a gigabyte "gaming" mouse for about a tenner and its suprisingly good! Got a dpi button to switch between 800 and 1600dpi which is handy for fps games and although that isn't as high as some mice, especially the pro gamer mice I find it more than adequate for my needs especially when used on a decent mousemat. The price makes it extremely worthwhile as you'll be looking to pay 3-5 times more for a "Pro" mouse. eg: Razor and the benefits don't really warrant that kind of money in my opinion.

i'd agree with Rakk and JSG10, wired is the way to go - I use an old dell keyboard though it looks nice enough and has a volume control and media player controls too. And a Razer Diamondback mouse which i've had for about 3+ years and is just soo nice to use - can't remember how much i paid now but i'm sure was sub £30. but any mouse with a nice high resolution will be good.

I had a wireless keyboard and mouse for a while, but it did eat the batteries.

Not only the cost of batteries, but also implications for the planet.

I am staying wired from now on, both keyboard and mouse.

I like a keyboard to have a sleep/wake-up button, so if I wander off for a while, I can send to sleep / wake-up etc.

I just bought LOGITECH MK300 WIRELESS SET (mouse and keyboard). 19.99 @ pc world and currys (this is only via reserve online and collect ) or 17.99 @ amazon and play.com . for the price you cant go wrong. Ive read alot about the battery lasting long time and this is key thing for this keyboard and mouse. its got usefull buttons (quite alot of top) and easy to change using driver software - you can customise your mouse and keyboard quite alot (commands wise, not pimping up ) . i also see pc pcspecialist list this product (actually they got logitech mk250 at same price as this )

I use wireless and wouldn't go back to wired now especially the mouse where the lead was always getting tangled and caught up which irritated me no end.
The batteries last ages in the keyboard not quite so long in the mouse, but if you use decent rechargeable batteries then it's not a problem provided you keep your spares charged up.
