I have been looking to buy a new laptop for a while now, my one just now is awful for gaming and software. I need a laptop that can handle CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software for my uni course and be able to play high end games with ease. I also want it to be super fast.

Is this spec good? Is it a better laptop than an ASUS G751JT with the 256 SSD and 1TB HDD.

Should I upgrade the RAM to 16GB for the software? Or would 8GB be sufficient. Does this laptop get very loud or is it quiet?

Thanks

It looks good and if compare like for like should be cheaper than the asus. You could get a smaller ssd and an Scorpio black as a secondary drive to save money. I would also suggest at least silver warranty for £5.

Okay thanks. So what's your experience with the Vortex? Does it get annoyingly loud or anything..?

Also no issue with 8GB RAM rather than 16GB, for the software?

No, not loud. Never had an issue apart from a keyboard key that was my fault. I had an asus laptop and the motherboard died after a year. In terms of noise is silent when not gaming but gets loud at full load (as any other gaming laptop).

Also, is RAID worth it..? Cause I have no idea what it does

There are various different types, but it's either for creating mirrored drives, so data is mirrored accross multiple drives for redundancy, or for increasing write and read speed by writing different sections to different drives so you've got a 6gb file, it'll split it between 3 drives so effectively only writing 2 gb of data if you get what I mean.

In any case, for performance when it comes to general use nowadays with SSD's it's not required, but data redundancy can be handy.
