New Machine arriving tomorrow

For the last 15 years or so I've been using gaming Laptops (mostly Alienware), but have decided to upgrade to a desktop and this is arriving tomorrow, anything I should look out for (I know the motherboard is only operating the RAM at 5000MHz but that will be addressed in the next bios update apparently)? I'll be using it for games like Civ, Starfield, Cyberpunk, Elder Scrolls and Elite Dangerous on an Oculus Quest 2.

I'd say you've under-specced the PSU...in both wattage (current forum recommendation is for 850w+ for a 40-series GPU), and office-spec CV-rage PSU (forum recommendation would be an RX-range PSUl).

You also really don't want the Arctic paste, as it means PCS will have to remove the pre-installed Corsair paste on the cooler before they can add the Arctic paste...and the Corsair paste & application in very good.

Interesting on the Power supply, I originally went with a higher specced one but the website told me I didn't need all that juice so I went lower. Presumably it shouldn't be too difficult to upgrade if needed. Wasn't aware of the corsair paste thing.

Replacing a PSU is a major headache, it's basically a full system rebuild.

The warning is accounting for the current specs, but you're not building the PC with current specs in mind, you're designing it so it can take required upgrades for the 7 - 10 year lifespan of the PC. The warning also doesn't account for transient spikes which can draw up to twice the GPU TDP, if there isn't the headroom, you'll get system instability of the PC will just cut out without warning.

I also wouldn't recommend the 4070 , it's a woefully poor product until prices come down significantly, it's just not worth the money. An AMD GPU offers better performance for less.

But without knowing your budget and what make and model monitor you're using it's not possible to give any advice?

The configurator tends to try to save you some cash, and doesn't factor in any upgrade path.

The CV PSUs have all their cables hard-wired into the PSU, so a replacement PSU at a later date (in case of upgrading or failure) requires a complete strip & re-wire. The RX models have cables that can simply be detached the PSU end and swapped onto a new PSU.

Hmmmm beginning to wish I'd spotted the forums before ordering the machine, still I think it will do the job I want from it more than adequately and if I want to upgrade in a couple of years time I'll either sell it on or give it to my son and next time run some specs through here!
