New member, new PC..YAY!

Hi All

I have been a Dell customer for quite a few years and for the lat 4 years i have had a iMac which has been very reliable. Although the Mac is good (or at least until it stared playing up!!) i felt it lacked in certain areas so decided to go back to a Windows PC. I was very careful who I chose to build my PC and settled on PCSpecialist as they had by far the most consistant good feedback plus great items to choose from for the build process. Here is my spec;

Case COOLERMASTER SILEO 500 QUIET MID TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i5-2500 Quad Core (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache) + HD Graphics
Motherboard ASUS® P8Z68-V LX: USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs, ATI®CrossFireX
Memory (RAM) 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)
Graphics Card 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 430 - DVI,HDMI,VGA
Memory - 1st Hard Disk 1TB SEAGATE Barracuda SATA 6Gb/s HDD, 32MB Cache (7200rpm)
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Memory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT
Power Supply 450W Quiet 80 PLUS Dual Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan (£29)
Processor Cooling SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE INTEL CPU COOLER (£19)
Sound Card ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Facilities 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCs
USB Options 6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARD
Modem NONE, I WILL BE USING BROADBAND
Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit - inc DVD & Licence (£79)
Office Software FREE Microsoft® Office Starter 2010 (Limited functionality Word & Excel)
Anti-Virus NO ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE
Monitor IIYAMA E2473HDS 24" LED WIDESCREEN, 2 HDMI/DVI-D 1920x1080 (£159)
DVI-D & HDMI Monitor Cables 1 x 2 METRE GOLD PLATED V1.4 HDMI CABLE (£8)
Warranty 3 Year Standard Warranty (1 Month Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour)

As you can see I have gone for a quiet system as I like quiet computers. I mainly do photo editing and not gaming so the spec should be more than enough for me. I may get back into Flight Sim X at some point and again this system should be fine. I only ordered it today so it will be a few weeks before i get some pics up. I really can't wait!!!!

Up your warranty to silver for a fiver, and you're set :) May want a better GPU for Flight sim x, not sure about the requirements for it though.

a GTX550Ti would be an ideal card for FSX although it does require a lot of CPU power as well, would probablt up the seagate HDD to the caviar black, will give you a slight improvement in loading times

Thanks peeps. How do you update once the order has gone through? Do they take more payment from your card or is the money taken once built?

You can amend your order from the order tracking bit of the site (only once it's gone into pre-production though, you can't whilst its still in processing afaik).
When you amend stuff a sub-order will be created and you have to pay for that before your order as a whole can go forward .

I have amended my order twice now. Once in the processing stage and once in building. If you amend your order in the building stage then an admin charge is applied. I paid an extra £5, on top of PCS hardware prices, for additional optical and hard drives. Admin charge is not applicable if order is amended in processing or pre production.
I can't wait for my new PC either. The process is in its 7th working day and I placed my order on the 4th Jan. All being well I'm guessing delivery will be on Wednesday / Thursday next week. I'll post review/pics in this forum...

I'm guessing my rig will run FS9 without any problem? My last PC ran it fine and i bought that about 6 years ago and I'm not even sure it was duel core let alone quad core!. I know FS9 will not take advantage of the Quad core but it should still run pretty sweet?
