Casino! Fine choice! As a bit of a Beatlemaniac I’ll be going all out on my next purchase and investing in a Rickenbacker 325. They’re not cheap so I’ll likely be saving for a good few years for that one.

I love the look of Rickenbacker guitars and that jangly sound that the Byrds and the Beatles made was fantastic. I've not played one for about 20 years. I might have a bit more of a challenge getting that one approved though, lol. Good luck with the saving towards it!

I’m curious... and I’m subverting your thread... what guitars do you have?

Here’s a few from my collection...

1996 Squier Jagmaster - before Jagmasters got cheap and nasty, this is the Vista series version with the basswood body and the 24 inch neck that was nabbed from Japanese Jaguars. My first electric, I’ll never part with it.

1999 Yamaha AEX 502 - These are almost criminally underrated, if you EVER see one cheap, buy it immediately. Only made for a couple of years but they’re top quality. The stock P90s are a little thin, I’ve replaced them with a set of Bare Knuckle Blue Notes and it screams. I have the black version but the orange fire glow is beautiful!

Epiphone Crestwood 1962 Limited Edition
Reissue - When I saw this one I simply had to have it! A truly sixties design, the Crestwood is full of flaws. The vibrato doesn’t help the guitar stay in tune, it’s prone to neck dive. But the neck profile and the mini humbuckers are perfect. Play this whilst you’re sat down and it’s the perfect studio guitar.

Hofner Club Bass - I love the Beatles and I love playing melodic bass lines... but I hate the violin bass that Paul McCartney plays. It just looks weird. Imagine my elation when I found the Club. It’s the same company and designers, put some flatwound strings on it and you get a Beatle bass but it looks infinitely better!

These are my favourites, I have more but I don’t want to bore you! 😁

Some beautiful guitars there. I have only one at the moment, a Fender Telecaster, although if I ever improve my playing would like a Strat as well.

Quite fancy a Rickenbacker bass as well.

My major issue (other than lack of technical prowess) is that I have worryingly small hands. As such, standard Fenders with their larger scale length present a genuine issue for a rhythm guitarist like me. I have a beautiful telecaster but it’s just not right.

Which is why I want the Rickenbacker 325, it’s technically a 3/4 sized guitar. I think it’ll suit my undersized paws to a tee!

Be interesting to know what Sergei Rachmaninoff could have done with a guitar. One of the reasons his pieces can be difficult, even for concert pianists was his massive span.

Sorry about the delayed reply, the weekend seemed to be spent running around doing stuff for other people. A friend has tested positive for COVID (no serious symptoms thankfully) so he and his wife are isolating. Went over to take some groceries and to walk the dogs. Then doing some things for my father in law who's vulnerable and shielding. No time to do much else by the time we finished.

Nice guitars AgentCooper, it's always interesting to see other people's collections and preferences., I love that Yamaha AEX, that's a new one to me. And I sympathise about the hand size issue - I have the same problem.

Some of the pictures are internet sourced ones as I tried taking some pictures of my own ones and couldn't seem to get anything decent, but it gives an idea hopefully. I've got a few other bits and pieces that I've collected over the years but these are the main ones. I do have a cheap and cheerful bass that I use for recording at home but ought to get something a bit more refined at some point.

My prized guitar is the Gibson Les Paul Custom Shop Black Beauty that I was lucky enough to get as a 60th birthday present from my amazing wife. It's just a beautiful guitar in every way - it is heavy though and needs a substantial strap if you're going to play it standing up for any length of time.

The one that I probably am attached to the most is my first "proper" guitar that I bought in a guitar shop in Luton back in the late 70's and is my candy apple red Strat. A beautiful looking and lovely guitar to play - mine is a bit more battered than the picture below as it's had 40 odd years of loving abuse :)

My only real nod to "modern" guitars so far is the PRS Singlecut which I bought on a whim after playing it in a music shop. Mine isn't quite the same colour as this one (or the exact same model) but very similar and fun to play.

The Fender Telecaster is one of my go to guitars as it's so flexible and just feels so comfortable in my hands. Its a Mexican built Baja tele but the quality is every bit as good any of the US built one's I've played recently.

The oldest member of the family is an Italian built Eko Ranger VI jumbo acoustic guitar. I got it on my 21st birthday and it's still with me 45 years later, showing it's age a little - but then again aren't we all :)

An old favourite though is my Shaftesbury Les Paul that I bought from a friend in the mid-70s. He played in bands around the London area (the pub-rock scene was very big back then) and when he earnt enough to buy a really good guitar he let me buy this for next to nothing. It had been modified and had Gibson pickups fitted and Schaller machine heads and is extraordinarily heavy but I won't ever part with it even though I have a real LP now.

Hi all,

I got some great advice from @AgentCooper and read a lot of build advice from @JUNI0R amongst others which got me to a suitable initial buiild that I was happy with but my order seems to be stalling as the GPU (an AMD 550) is now expected at the end of May rather than the end of March that it said a couple of days ago (even though it was all in stock when I ordered it) There is now an Nvidia choice of 1050Ti or 1650, either of which would be good enough for what I want.

I've been in touch with PCS and the Fractal Define G7 case that I liked is also out of stock and not expected in until sometime in April (maybe or possibly!). So I need to choose another case so would like your input. I'm looking for quiet rather than blingy (not planning any RGB), the BeQuiet 601 looks like it might fit the bill but would like to know if any of you have any opinions for or against it. Or a different suggestion if necessary. I quite like the look of the Corsair 5000D case as well even though it looks more like a gamers case.

Thanks for all your help so far, and look forward to your input.

Thanks

Just wanted to put an update here. After changing the GPU for the Nvidia 1650 and the case for the BeQuiet! 601, I went into build pretty quickly and received my PC last Tuesday.

Well pleased with it, it looks great and performs nicely.

Thanks to all who helped suggest build options and alternatives. I'm really happy with what I've chosen. Just need to move everything over to the new one and put it in place. I'll post some pictures once I've tidied it up, it would give @AgentCooper palpitations at the moment due to some "slight" untidiness.

Thanks again guys!
