New PC for 3D and GPU Rendering - Looking for some advice

Hey!

I'm trying to put a decent computer together that can be used for a variation of 3D things, such as animation, sculpting and GPU rendering. (and a little bit of gaming, but nothing heavy)

So I'm hoping to get some suggestions and thoughts on what I currently have selected. I'll always be confused whether to go for AMD or Intel, so I've gone for Intel as that's something I've always used. Sorry if my lack of knowledge is painful to read lol.

I do think my RAM and graphics card are fine as it'll be an upgrade from a GTX 1060 in a laptop that is falling apart. I have recently done a similar upgrade in graphics card on my own PC and seems to be what I need.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

The main consideration has to be the budget. For 3D rendering you want the GPU to be really strong but the 3060 is very much entry level. If you're not looking for particularly high end or fast utilisation then it may suffice. If you already use a similar level and find it OK then I guess that would be a fair choice.

The 12900k is a very poor choice though. It runs like a furnace and has multiple reports of warping under continued use. Given the utilisation that you're going for, I don't think you need such a beefy CPU. There are other things to consider, such as it being previous generation as well. The cooler you have selected is nowhere near enough though. There was a report today of a user having temperature issues with an i5 chip with a more powerful cooler and the same case solution.

Long story short, the build isn't balanced at all. With a £1500 budget it will be difficult to aspire to the utilisation that you are after as a recommendation. I think the best we can do is factor in the 3060 that you find competent and build around that with the rest of the budget.

This is where I land ITRO £1500. It could have been less but the cooling options are restricted to the higher end, for what I would recommend here. If you don't mind a little extra fan noise then the H100x would be a fine choice, it's an excellent cooler but a little bit nosier than the H100i offerings.

Awesome thank you very much. That clears up a lot of things, and this seems like a good build for the needs and budget.
Would you personally change much to this if there's a max budget of around £1,800?

There isn't a lot of value in 40 series Nvidia cards unfortunately. Without throwing serious cash to it you can only really concentrate on the CPU side of things. I wouldn't pay the extra for the 4060Ti for example.

You can get a serious CPU & RAM bump for the additional cash though. This I would definitely see as a worthwhile investment. The GPU you could look to increase down the line when there are better value offerings.
