New PC keeps freezing and needing reset

It's also thermal throttling, so either your cooling is not sufficient, or not working correctly.
Would that be covered by the warranty? I'm not sure who to contact about it. (Or what to say to them). they couldn't fit the initial 5 fans so told me 4 would be okay: Change to [4 x Corsair AF120 RGB ELITE PWM Fan + Controller Kit] from [5 x Corsair AF120 RGB ELITE PWM Fan + Controller Kit]

It's doing it again now. Does the usual 3 year warranty cover how the OS is set up to work with the hardware? I.e. if it weren't a hardware problem could they ix any software problem that was making it freeze?

You need to find out why it's clocking so high. My just be overclocked on the board, you haven't said if you've checked it?

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

They have asked me (PC Specialist tech support) regarding the thermal throttling to do the following, I will when I get time as there are tens of screens to capture:

1. Download and install HWINFO64: https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

2. Run HWINFO64 with 'sensors only' ticked.

3. In the bottom left of HWINFO64 click the expansion arrows to spread the sensor data across your entire screen.

4. Run Aida64 for 20 - 30 minutes.

5. Bring HWINFO forward and take a screenshot of all the results.

6. Send the results to me in response to this email.



OCCT - https://www.ocbase.com/download/edition:Personal - Can you please run all the stability tests for about 10 or 15 minutes each and then get screenshots of the results

So you've checked the motherboard overclock? Was it applied? You haven't said if that was off?

The cooler isn't suitable for the processor, plus I think your motherboard is set on overvoltages.

Those two combined will inevitably cause overheating.

I don't how to check Motherboard Overclock. I'm not very technically minded, can you explain how to do it simply?
What are overvoltages?
I'm not sure why PC Specialist would've wrongly set up/designed something like the cooler for the processor, with all the testing they did before sending it out :( If they have sold me an unsuitable configuration which they designed, would the warranty cover them fixing it? It seems like misselling as a complete working configuration? I feel a bit like I've been conned out of £4000!

They did change from 5 fans to 4, as well, which they said was sufficient (when they started the build, the 5 wouldn't fit):

I've uploaded the first 70-odd OCCT Stability Test screenshots, as requested by PC Specialist Tech Support, for CPU, Linpack, and Memory. Probably a similar number required for 3d adaptive, 3d standard and VRAM still to do.

BTW - and I'm not trying to pick on you - but was this a build created by a PCS sales person, or did you just select the level components yourself on the configurator?

You've picked a motherboard that's intended for enthusiast/overclock builds...but that also means the user needs to be an enthusiast/overclocker to understand how to use/utilise it...and how to set custom fan-curves to deal with heat/noise.

Personally, I'd have it picked up and get a new build configured to meet your specific needs...using the forum help you with the choices. It will probably save you a chunk of money on the build, as well as your electricity bill from running it.

But this overclock is set by the manufacturer, not PCS.

Either way though, I would return it under 14 day return period and get some advice on something suitable, that build is not well configured.

I think this is for PCS rather than us? We don't need it, it's immediately obvious what's wrong.

PC Specialist designed it, I just said I wanted it to be able to run Elite Dangerous...

PC Specialist put together the configuration, I wouldn't know how to. It has been more than 14 days since the delivery, just about.

So far they've said "Also thank you for bringing this to my attention can we please run some tests to check the temperatures of this machine and the clock speeds on the CPU?"

I sent them and asked about the issues brought up in this forum thread and they just says "The forum is for public use and this is for people's opinions can you please do the following:" and repeated the demand for screenshots which I already sent (twice now).

Are they normally this unhelpful?

I repeat that they designed the configuration entirely. I wouldn't know how to.

Hopefully this setting makes it readable to people with the link (I've sent it to PC Specialist. As there are 151 OCCT screenshots they asked for (reasonable?), it went slightly over 25MB so even a zipped folder gets turned into a Googledrive link when I try to send the folder to them):

Thanks, I had a look at the video. It's jsut over 12 minutes point with the BIOS check, I went in and looked and mine is already set to the "Disabled - Enforce All Limits" on ASUS Multicore Enhancement as he advises.

In the BIOS, with that disabled setting the amperage and wattage look like what the video-maker advises:

I have no idea why you have been specced that build in honesty. It's not in line with what you have said here. However, we don't know how the conversation went with PCS at the time of inception so anything would be complete guesswork and now hearsay.

You should always ask enthusiasts for help when looking to purchase anything, especially when you are out of your depth in the technology. By calling PCS you will have gotten to the sales team who will have configured a system based on the budget you presented. It absolutely will cover all your needs, but it's significantly past what you actually require..... my guess is to the point of the budget mentioned.

Sales won't consider future upgradeability, value, 100s of hours worth of benchmarking comparisons etc.... that's what enthusiasts tend to do. You will typically notice a common echo across most enthusiast groups as given the same information we will tend to come to the same conclusion.

Are the selections compatible - yes
Do they meet the needs of the customer - yes
Is the build cost to the satisfaction of the customer - yes

What else would you expect to have been considered that hasn't been?

It's just the way of the world. If you want to know the ups and downs of a particular car you would never ask the person selling it on the forecourt.
