New PC/Monitor for P3D & MSFS

Hi folks,

I'm wanting to get back into flight sim. Used to love playing FSX & things look like they have advanced rather a lot since then 🙂. Had my current PC Specialist machine for over 10 years so I want to purchase a new computer & new monitor also. Plan would be to mainly use P3D V5 (with ORBX, PMDG, ActiveSky etc) for next few years and maybe consider switching to MSFS2020 after...so if possible to "future proof" would be great. (Going to be purchasing from PC Specialist and don't want to build my own)

I don't really know a great deal about hardware, what's better, NVIDIA/AMD, or even 4k/1440p etc? From reading forums past few weeks - is this the right time to buy?

Budget is anything up to £3500 for both pc & monitor.

Have been looking into these, if anyone has any experience of using them:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-32UL500...07YCQK373/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Od...a-923965783586&th=1&ref=&adgrpid=104282993474

Appreciate this could be a rather big topic, so any thoughts on any of this would be really welcome!

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Thanks for your quick reply Nursemorph. Prob a stupid question but is it ok to have an AMD processor (instead of INTEL) with an Nvidia card? Looks like a good setup though from my limited knowledge!

Thanks for your monitor suggestion - as I only plan to use this for both flight/train sims don't want it to be ultra wide so you loose the height.

The screen is simply 2 x 1440p monitors horizontally

It's 1440 pixels vertically and 5120 pixels horizontally.

1440p is 1440 x 2560 so the width is 2560 x 2 = 5120.

So it's just like having 2 1440p screens next to each other but without the bezels getting in the way.

It's stunning!

Thanks for your replies guys...good to know AMD is good with Nvidia these days - shows how long I've been away 😂

Will have another look at the G9 Monitor - it does look amazing, but I can't decide if I like that perspective. Does make it harder to read the aircraft screens etc I guess.

If I ended up going for a different monitor would there be anything people would change in Nursemorph's spec?

Thanks for all your help so far folks, v useful indeed. Excited to start getting this ordered too :)

It's literally exactly the same as it would be on a normal 1440p screen, except that you're seeing additional field of view around the sides. What you see in front of you is exactly the same on the G9 as it would be on a normal aspect ratio monitor. No difference at all.

Thanks, that makes sense. Does look pretty epic tbf! Will have a google see what its like with train sim too.

2 quick questions:

1) Is there any advantage to increasing the RAM from 32gb to 64gb?
2) Would it be a good idea to have 2x SSD drives to use one for flight sim & the other for train sim?

Cheers once again for all your help and prob pretty basic questions!

Monitor:

Thanks for your help folks - just ordered! :) Only thing I changed was went for a 1TB SSD instead of the 500gb. Just waiting to see if that amazing G9 monitor ends up in the amazon black friday sale too 🤞

Wonder how long the 3080 is gonna take!?

Thanks again, all the help much appreciated!

Not that fast...looked a minute ago and they are still in stock
It’s almost chicken and egg.

Do you buy the screen before the card or wait for the card.

if the latter, then they may be even cheaper in next years Black Friday sale or just buy the G 10.

Haha that’s v true! I bit the bullet and went for the G9. Don’t mind waiting for my new PC to arrive.

Could be a stupid question, but just to check the monitor is working will be alright to test it with my current pc (a v old GTX 680!)?

I imagine that you would be fine for using it for general stuff, web surfing etc...not sure what would happen if you tried gaming with that card though
Cheers mate - yeh might just plug it in & check it’s all working ok so it’s in the Amazon return window in case any issues. New PC has just gone into pre production 🥳

Not certain it could handle the resolution, could be wrong, haven't actually looked it up.
