New PC query re: fan

Hi there

Just invested in a new PC Specialist PC and for the most part, I have no complaints.

However I do have one question that I really hope is the question of an IT-moron.

The CPU fan isn't moving. Ever.

I did think that it should move?

I ran speedfan which confirms the CPU is 30C so is it just a case that until it heats up the fan doesn't move? Or do I need to start messing about with customer services?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've been digging around and it looks like the Asus Z97 CPU fan should go at the top of the mobo, in between the RAM and the EPU.

I can see the wire running from the fan, along the top of the mobo and out of sight behind the disc drive. I can't see it coming back out and it isn't going into the mobo via what seems to be the designated slot.

Hang on. Is this the reason, I have the "Super Quiet 22dBA Triple Copper Heatpipe Intel CPU Cooler"

Consequently the rear fan isn't needed?

Are you referring to the chassis fan then and not cpu cooler?

My abject lack of knowledge means I don't really know.

It's the large fan sitting on the inside rear of the case. It says "in win" on it in red, which presumably means it came with the case? I really don't know.

Can I assume that my post was that of a moron and this fan isn't needed?

From your description you are referring to a chassis fan not the cpu cooler. To connect the chassis fan you need to connect it to the power supply or maybe the case has a switch at the front to turn it on

As Keynes said that is not the CPU fan, the CPU fan is the one on top of or next to the heat sink in the middle of the board which should be turning all the time. The fan you are talking about is the rear case fan, this should also really be turning all the time it's on too as this is what facilitate air flow through the machine, it draws the air supplied through the front vents out of the back of the machine. It sounds like it is either faulty or not actually connected, you may have to take the other side panel off to see where the its cable goes, if isn't plugged in then plug it in and it should work, if is plugged in then you likely have a faulty fan and would need to contact PCS for a replacement.

Yes it's the rear case fan. However I cannot see where to connect it or what to connect it with! The red/black intertwined wire runs from the fan along the top of the MOBO over the top of the disc drive at the front and down the far side of the case (which I've now popped off), where it then disappears under the bottom HDD and out of sight. I can't trace it beyond that and I can't see any connectors coming back out of there to connect anywhere? I've gently tugged on it to see if it comes out anywhere but it's tight and I'm not yanking for fear it breaks.

I also can't see any loose connectors except for a tiny one labelled "power led".

I'm not confident enough to remove the front cover - nor do I have clue how to - which might at least show me where the wire goes.

What should I do? What am I looking for and, more importantly, where can I find it?

I've message PCS too.

Thanks for the help.

I traced the wire to the front fan, which is spinning. The rear fan remains unmoved.

Above the disc drive was a bundle of wires. In that was a white connector in which the fan wire went into. However the fan wire had popped out. I replaced it but it made no difference. I still can't find anything that would connect the case fan to the mobo though.

The connector is loose so I let it fall out and the front fan still spins regardless.

Edited.
