New spectre variants affecting both AMD and Intel

A new variant has been found affecting both AMD and Intel.

It's not certain the overall impact of this, the patch will likely affect performance across the board, but it's still not clear if this is an up close attack vector or remote:

I'm not going to pretend that I understand even the most basic details of these micro-op cache vulnerabilities because despite reading the white paper I really don't. However, from what I can gather from that white paper, it seems that to exploit these vulnerabilities the attacker would have to be able to execute code on the target PC - as with the Spectre vulnerability.

The way to defend against these kinds of vulnerabilities is to ensure that the attacking code doesn't get onto your PC.
