New video editing spec.

Hi, initially going for a Intel i5 2400 Quad Core processor, but put off by the Sandy Bridge problem.

Any comments appreciated on the following spec for video editing purposes.

Also, have seen a few comments about problems with 1TB Caviar Black HDD. Is this the case & would I be better choosing a different one?

Many thanks for any advice offered.

This should be fine for video editing but consider 8GB of RAM and the GTX 560. The Caviar Black is a great drive, if a little noisy depending on the case. Any problems you may have read about could just as easily occur with any other hard drive.

I would reconsider Sandy Bridge. It won't be a problem with the components you've specced above.

Confused!

Thanks for your reply. I'm a bit confused though why you suggested 8Gb of RAM instead of 12Gb. Isn't extra RAM better for video editing?

Tom DWC suggested 8GB of RAM to compensate for the extra cost of the better graphics card. Whilst 12GB is better than 8GB, you'd have to be carrying out some pretty hardcore video editing to require more than 8GB of RAM, and the money would be better spent of a more powerful graphics card with more CUDA processing cores. Hope this helps. :)
