Newbie help: ultimate media PC wanted.

Howdy,

I'm looking to buy a machine that will allow me to rip my CDs (2000+) and DVDs (1000+) to a hard drive or NAS. I want to be able to access the movies when i'm travelling so will be converting them to a more size friendly format. In the future, I also want to hooknthisnup to my main tv screen and feed other laptops in the house. Happy with a desktop or plc. What is the best spec in CPU, ram, graphics and drives to achieve this? I'm confused by all the different combinations of kit! Help!

This will do the job no problem & will be a nice nippy pc. I only put 500gb hard drive as I don't think your going to carry a pc around with you lol NAS drive would definitely be the best option. As far as backing up CD-DVD I have a 3 year old laptop so as you can imagine it's not all that great nowadays & can backup a dvd in around 7 minutes. AnyDVD trial would be worth a download to it's great software good luck.

Sorry should have said. Budget just for the box is £1'000. I will upgrade the monitor later. No gaming for me so the most intensive tasks will be ripping the DVDs and switching between formats. Thank you

I assume you would need more than 1 dvd/cd drive.
