Newbie in need of help

Hi Guys,

I am a total novice when it comes to this kind of thing, so was hoping I could get some opinions on this build. I am looking for a laptop that will be capable of reasonably high end gaming, running AAA games at good settings. Is there anywhere I could be saving/getting better value for money or getting rid of unnecessary features? I've always had horrible luck with mechanical drives, which is why I thought I should get an SSD only on this.

Thanks, much appreciated.

Is there a particular reason it has to be a laptop? You get much more bang for your buck with a desktop PC. The laptops suitable for gaming are often quite heavy and need to be plugged in for intensive sessions anyway so they do lose their portability a little bit there.

My main consideration would be that I would like it to double up as a work laptop, however I take your point regarding portability. I will look into some desktop configurations to see what savings could be made with similar specs. Any advice would be welcome. :)

In addition to this, some laptops are known to have cooling problems when worked hard. That makes them noisy and probably shortens their life. If it's at all possible to go down the desktop route for gaming I think you'll have a much better (and probably longer) experience. :)

Thanks a lot, I appreciate the advice. Helped save me from making an expensive and impulsive buy without having the facts at hand! :)
