Hi. I’m looking to purchase a new gaming laptop that I can also use for day to day stuff. I don’t profess to be an expert when it comes to computers, but I can get by.
Looking at the various posts on this forum has proved extremely useful and informative. The one standout piece of advice seems to be to buy the best GPU you can afford. So, I’ve gone for the RTX 3060 with 6Gb of RAM.
I also have a very large catalogue of photos that will need to be copied over to the new laptop. From personal experience, I’ve found that you can never have enough storage space. It seems it doesn’t matter what the capacity, it will always fill up! So, I’m going for a fairly large amount of storage space overall.
Finally, opinion seems to be divided on whether it is a good idea to have the OS on a separate SSD. I quite like the idea that by doing so you don’t need to reload everything else if you have to reinstall Windows (what with Windows 11 supposedly on the horizon).
With the above in mind, here is the spec I’m considering. I’ve gone for the Elimna because it has a detachable battery. My thinking is to have the OS on the 250Gb SSD, other software and games on the 1Tb SSD and all my photos, documents, videos etc on the 2Tb SSD. I know I could save quite a bit by swapping the 2Tb SSD for a HDD but, again, from experience the first thing that tends to go is the HDD.
My budget limit was going to be £1,500 so this is slightly above that.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
