Hello everyone, after reading thru a few forums its become apparent that theres genuine help here so ill gladly take some if possible. The title basically spells it out, i want a pc thats future (ish ) proof to play fifa mainly at full whack for the next 5 years or so, as u can tell by my vague description im a casual pc user thats fed up of xbox and ps4 and would welcome a return to pc gaming. i have no loyalty to a brand or preference as im not advanced enough in pc know how or intelligence to argue etc. I went onto the build ur own part of this site, basically put in nearly all top spec and it came to just short of £4000 . im sure i didnt need half of the stuff i selected almost blindly. Could i please glean some much needed help and info......many many thanks

Welcome to the forums :)

Tbh, lack of loyalty or preference for brand is probably the smartest way to be when shopping for consumer electronics.

I don't play FIFA but there's an article which benchmarks performance here:

You won't need to spend anywhere near £4k to push very high settings in that game, even at high resolutions.

What monitor are you gaming on? What resolution and refresh rate? (if you have a monitor or TV but don't know the specs, the model number is usually on the back somewhere - post that and we can look it up)

If you don't yet have a monitor, what sort of monitor were you looking at getting, or no real preference at this stage and open to recommendations?

While FIFA is your main title, you'll also be looking at moving into other PC gaming too, yes?

And are you intending to stream your gameplay e.g. to Twitch?

Hello again, thx for the reply ill answer as best i can. i wont be streaming at all, ill be playing on 4k tvs not a specialist monitor , i will branch out to other games which i would like to not worry about framerates dropping or it not looking the best it can (to an extent ) . Basically i want to play on a 4k (hdr) tv (LG UH850V) that supports everything onxbox 4k settings without any conflicts(im not a super techy as u can see but these are my best honest answers). i just want to know that when i buy a new game i can trurn the graphics up to top whack (for 4k tv not specialist monitor etc) and it look and play amazingly to someone like me not a pc guru. i like to turn every game up to the top settings possible and that last a few years before its out of date. I genuinely appreciate the help and have answered in my limited way as best in laymans terms as i can for now.....cheers

That's all useful, thanks :)

Your old PC was a mid-range 1080p gaming PC, with a GTX 660 - and you say was ~£900.

For a high end 4k gaming PC, you'd be looking at £2k+, though that's still a lot less than your £4000 build(!).

One word of caution - beware of talking about 'ultra' or 'max' PC settings. Some games have a few settings that don't actually add much to the image quality, but are so demanding that today's PC's can't handle them. But if you turn all / some of the settings to 'high' or 'very high' instead of ultra, the game looks basically the same and runs much smoother. So experiment a bit, and find the settings that give the best balance of performance vs picture quality for your personal taste.

I'll post a couple of options.

This is about the most you could sensibly spend on a 4k gaming PC:

Most powerful gaming CPU on the market, most powerful gaming graphics card, 16gb fast RAM, high end case, motherboard, and CPU cooler, very fast SSD.

I'd add the RM850x PSU instead of the 750W TXm but the RMx is out of stock. 750W is way more than enough, but the RMx is a higher end model (even better quality, quieter). It's a nice-to-have.

But there are cheaper options.

At 4k, the CPU you choose doesn't impact performance very much, because you are GPU-limited. So an AMD R5 3600 for ~£200 is going to perform about the same as a £500 Intel 9900k.
If you're not buying an i9 CPU, you don't need a really powerful CPU cooler. A mid-range one is more than okay.
You don't need a £200 case.
You don't need a super expensive motherboard.
You can get a cheaper SSD. It's still an SSD and games don't usually care much what SSD you have.

e.g.

Case
CORSAIR CRYSTAL SERIES 460X RGB GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 Six Core CPU (3.6GHz-4.2GHz/36MB CACHE/AM4)

Performance is going to be about the same.
There are some features you don't get, but you were probably not going to use those anyway.
And that's £700 in the bank for a graphics card upgrade in ~2-3 years.

Of course these are custom PCs. So you could get the R5 3600 spec, but with the 970 Evo SSD instead of the cheaper SX6000. or you could get a higher end motherboard like the X570 Plus. Or you could get the Intel i9 9900k build with the cheaper SSD, the Corsair 460X case, and the AORUS Pro motherboard to save £200-300 - an i9 9900k build doesn't need to be £700 more expensive, that's just what it looks like if you go all in :)

As above, I wouldn't go absolutely crazy with the build. Be a little more reserved.

The 3600 would be my choice as there's an open door on the socket at the moment. The 1151 is all but a dead end. There's next to nothing in it for 4k performance and if you want to look at footy manager and things like that it will smash the processing. Intel is very niche now for me.

I would spend a little bit more though....

3200Mhz RAM would be my choice
I would always spend the extra on the better cooler (H100 RGB Platinum is an amazing cooler and provides excellent extraction to keep your 2080Ti cool)
Same with the PSU. The case and PSU should last you for at least another build. I would spend the extra and go with the RMx 850 when it's in stock.

wow thx everyone , loads of help and info , also non biased opinions is brilliant. i think id better swat up a little and get back to u (im only using this site so will be back , just busy in real life , but will decide within a week i guess) . i think one suggestion said wait for out of stock item to come back in , typically im guessing its different for every part so ill debate and probably procrastinate until im happy. amazingly happy i asked for your help as im starting to actually picture the final build, whereas before it was going to be basically a pre build from currys.....or still could be i guess if everything i needed was in one? but the suggestions are cracking.....cheers, cya soon

Never buy a pre build from currys, theres probably 1 in 100 gaming desktops on currys website that are ever worth considering. Alot of what's advertised is last gen cpu and GPUs at last gen release date prices. They're still selling 8th gen cpus on most of their pcs last time I checked when 10th gen are on the horizon.

As my general rule goes, if your ever going to spend atleast a grand on a desktop, go custom.

The attached demonstrates the problem lmao, that's on clearance.

Just to remind people weren't not really meant to advise on other companies' specs / products - for, or against. :)

I've seen a few people post specs from Curry's / PC World on this forum; generally PCS specs that PCS provide to Curry's to resell.

My usual reaction is to start typing a post explaining you can get the same spec direct from PCS for cheaper, only to find that when I put the spec into the configurators, that's not always true. And some of them are decent specs, not locked i7s on an H310 etc.

But as above, before buying anything anywhere, check you're not paying high prices for last gen's tech. Such as the i7 7800x you can (unfortunately) buy direct from PCS... if you're not careful.
