Not Connected (to internet)

My PCSpecialist PC is no longer connecting to the internet. (I'm using a backup PC to post this).
I have a cabled modem which was working fine.

I have tried:
- swapping the Ethernet cable with another one that works
- switching off, waiting 30 minutes, switching on again both the PC and modem

I'm stuck with the message "You're not connected to a network".

Any ideas appreciated.

Hi there, couple of questions might help narrow down a potential issue;

Was the PC working before and suddenly not working anymore? Did you install anything since? Are you using the same cable to your backup PC?

The PC was working fine before; put into sleep mode; problem found on reactivation a few hours later.
Nothing installed in the interim. However, I did try a system restore (forgot this in my original post) but to no avail.
Yes, I'm using the same cable to the backup PC. I have also tried others which work on the backup but not the PCS PC.
There have been no power issues that I'm aware of.

Check to see if it appears in device manager under network adapters and see if you have the latest driver installed ( you should have already ). I'm assuming since you've tried a sytem restore you've also simply tried re-starting the PC and also putting the PC back to sleep again. Turning it off and on sometimes does wonders :)

Try disabling and re-enabling your Ethernet adaptor. I had a similar problem recently. I have no idea how I fixed it, I tried a dozen things, got annoyed, turned off my PC and then the next day it magically starting working again.

Star Trek was a lie. Computers are not always logical.

Thank you for responding. I tried your suggestions.
I then turned the PC off and on again - still no internet connection.

I then recalled something I'd read a couple of years ago.
Turn the computer off, remove the power lead, press the power button (no response of course, but it drains the caps), turn it on again.
IT WORKED! I have the internet connection!

So, it's impossible to judge what fixed the problem, but you guys may have played a part - so my thanks to you for your time.
It's also impossible to judge what caused the problem in the first place. But there we go.

All the best!

The Power Wash Technique is one of the best! Ensuring the rig gets a clean boot does wonders, I have asked PCS to run tests in the past using this technique which has helped show faults. It's something no automation can recreate at this moment in time.

Glad you got your problem resolved!

See, told you the fix was magic.

Can I just add that the restart was not what fixed mine (and the internet was working)...the day after trying a dozen things it wasn't working, so I turned it straight off again. Then the next day it was starting working again when booted up.
