Hi,

This bad boy arrived yesterday!

I bought this as a desktop replacement to do my freelance CGI work as I am a professional VFX artist; cost just under £3K altogether.
The intention was to have a computer I can use as my main workstation that is also portable enough to fit in a backpack and travel with me.
With this I have options on where to work, without compromising on power too much.

Needed as much power as I could get as the software I use really pushes processors, graphics cards, RAM and hard drives to the limit.
So far all of my tests have been great, it runs at comparable smoothness to the high end desktop I have at work, on all of the software I have tried, like Maya, Z-Brush, Mari, After Effects, Photoshop and Substance.
Temperatures seem ok after some stress tests. Using it with a cooling pad, and got the Core Temp utility tool to monitor it.
Cores run at about 42C for casual browsing and get up to 80C+ when pushing the software or heavy gaming.
I heard that the RTX 20 series cards also run cooler than GTX 10 series.

Need to buy portable monitor(s) next to increase screen space.

I like gaming too, but new to PC gaming.
Got the bundled Battlefield V downloaded and waiting for Anthem next week.
As you'd expect, gaming is super smooth with this setup.

Wow that is an absolute beast!

Have you done any 3DMark benchmarking to see how it gets on? The 3Dmark torture test checks your temperatures quite well without going too extreme.

I was about to say "Whoa! 64GB RAM..." but then read the post and it became clear why that choice was made.

What a machine! :)

A few more pics, showing comparison with my old 15" laptop. Old machine is i7, 8Gb RAM, GTX 950M so this is a massive upgrade.

Not yet, but thanks for the suggestion, i'll try it out.
Think I need a stream account to get that working, only have origin account at the moment.

That's right, it's only available through Steam these days, worth having an account though, get some really good deals on there including free games every now and again.

That is one absolute monster of a build. You may get performance improvement from a slight undervolt of around 100mv (dependant on your silicon)

If you run the torture test option that will do a test 20 times in a row and give a good indication of how it will perform in a heaving gaming scenario. If it passes that test successfully that would suggest a solid build.

What are your GPU temps ?
Saw an other user posting temps on this forum where the GPU was unacceptably hot.

Great looking set up.

What cooling pad are you using with it, I am after a new one for my Octane but a lot of pads that are advertised as being ok for 17" laptops barely fit a 15.

Thermaltakes are worth a look too:

https://www.thermaltake.com/cooler.aspx

I've got an older thermaltake with one large fan, almost silent but reduced laptop temps by 5c which is pretty impressive.

This is the most mental one I've seen for pure size (200mm fan) and bells and whistles:

Thanks both, reps given. They look good machines. I liked my old Xigmatek as the one large fan seemed to work better than a variety of smaller ones but cannot find that model anywhere.

I just got the HWMonitor tool which also monitors GPU and not just CPU so i'll run some tests. It doesn't seem overly hot but i'll try and get some data.

I am also looking for an upgraded cooling pad as mine is a 15" Coolermaster which was for my old laptop, so thanks for the links Rajen and SpyderTracks.
I'd rather get something with some more punch.

I ran Fire Strike. That's the data for temperatures.

benchmark.jpg

Only one core got into the 90's and GPU never got beyond 87.
Other components run cooler still.

This is with the cooling pad on.

I'll run it a few times, and without cooling pad.

And that's after running it twice more and removing the cooling pad.
Still in high 80's for GPU, but CPU well into 90's.

benchmark2.jpg

So cooling pads do help shave off a few degrees, and mine is only a basic one.

Software generally runs cooler as it's less of a consistent demand on the card.
Need to try some heavy rendering to test the CPUs temp.

Already got upto 80% of RAM usage using Mari so glad I went with the 64Gb.
CG software will scale to use whatever RAM you have installed and if I could get 128Gb in a laptop I would have paid the extra for that.

Overall though it runs pretty cool considering what's in it.

GPU temp seems to high.
We're you using Auto fan to purposely allow it to get so hot ?
Or you used Clevo Control Center to speed up the fans and this was with max fan / custom curve?

After an FS run GPU should not exceed 80C.

Did your u ask for better thermal paste or you went with the cheaper, low quality factory paste ?

Here is a benchmark with the same machine after 20 min of CPU and GPU stress testing:
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=12681&d=1550039091

Max CPU temp is 90c, max GPU temp is 70C.

You need to locate the cause of your high GPU temp because it is not normal and it will damage your VGA in the long run. (Not to mention that it is throttling)

I got the better thermal paste.
This is just auto fan.
Haven't got Clevo installed yet, so no this isn't best use of the fans.
