Odd Customer Service

So this is quite weird, I phoned up PCS yesterday to speak to someone about the 14" Defiance III laptop. Unfortunately I don't recall the name of the guy I spoke to.

I had 3 basic questions, first being, Could you tell me the model or chassis number for this laptop type please? I was told it's the RS model. Skipping forward to today, I was on the live chat with someone called Andrew who told me the model/chassis number was the P640HK1. Two different answers. Odd.

Could they clarify how many, and what type of USB ports this model laptop had. The detailed specification lists the laptop as having 4x USB 3.0 ports. But the actual dropdown menu on the laptop configuration page lists the laptop as having 3x USB 3.0 ports and 1x USB 3.1 Type-C port. Yesterday I was told over the phone the laptop has 3x3.0 and 1x3.1 type-c. Cool beans, however today on the live chat I was told it's just 4x3.0. Odd.

And lastly, I was asking why the website is only allowing for 1x XX type of RAM all the way up to 32GB, when the laptop allows to run 2. The laptop has 2 slots for RAM, but I thought it's kinda weird the only purchase options are 1x4GB, 1x8GB, 1x16GB or ... 2x16GB. I don't understand why 2x8GB (for example) isn't an option. At this question, the Live chat ended as a conversation. Odd.

What advice should I try to take from this ? The phone or the live chat? Or try again ?

Many regards,
Greg

I don't work for PCS but I think I can answer your questions.

The chassis is Clevo P640HK1, that information can be found on this page https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/clevo-laptops/40/ - That page lists all the machines by chassis number.

As far as I can tell the chassis has no USB type c, very difficult to pick out as some places online seem to list it as having them, however on inspection of the photos on the PCS website I cannot see any type c ports. if you look on the 15 inch chassis you can clearly see them on the side of the machine in the photographs.

as far as the RAM its quite simple (I'm guessing). They want to leave you room for future upgrades, running with 2 sticks makes little difference to performance so its good practice to leave one slot free for easier (and cheaper) upgrading later.

So on balance id go with the guy on live chat, I don't work for PCS so my answers mean squat I guess, but that's my take. Are any of these features deal breakers if unavailable, if so it might be best to ring up again and double/triple check but I'm fairly sure of my answers (so long as the picture is accurate,,,)

It is concerning that you are getting contradictory information from different sources within PCS. Regarless of where you getting the info from I would suggest also getting a written confirmation by email in case the configuration is not as described.
