Office & Web computer

My dad is thinking of buying a new computer to replace his 4 year old Dell (which is now getting rather slow). The computer will mainly be used for office (word & excel) and web browsing. Won't be doing any gaming on it, and already has monitor, keyboard, etc.

Budget is c.£600, although don't want to pay for anything that won't be useful. He looking for something that will run quickly with multiple things open at once (browser windows & spreadsheets mainly). HDD size isn't likely to be an issue as he is currently only using 100GB of space out of a 300GB drive, but a fast, reliable HDD would be useful.

I've suggested the spec below - does anyone have any thoughts on this? Particularly whether the processor or memory are overkill (although memory is pretty cheap these days, and would prefer the machine to last for a few years).

For a non gaming system that spec is probably a bit over the top, but i suppose it would last a good bit longer.

I would advise an i3 with 4GB of RAM. I normaly sit at about 1.3-1.9GB of ram in use at any one time when im doing anything other than video editing, that inclused having multiple tabs and other small apps open. An i3 will eat up web browsing and MS office work all day without any trouble, so i would get that as long as your fairly confident that your father wont suddenly start video editing or something.

The HDD is ideal, if a little large and the CPU cooler is probably over the top but is avery good choice if you require it to be quiet.
