Old PC Question - Can you make your desktop PC, use the laptop as a monitor ONLY

So my sister dug up an old PC that i had a while back, the specs seem to be better then my girlfriends laptop. I've asked if she wants it but she prefers the laptop so I was wondering if she could use the desktop but just have her laptop as a monitor and nothing more.

If its possible I'd like to know how please.

I think it is possible, but I don't think its easy to do nor necessarily cost efficient (ie it might be cheaper / easier to just buy a cheap display).

Though impressive, she only wants her laptop as the monitor still so she can have it rested on her lap and doesnt like the idea of having a desk. I'll keep searching though
