Onboard graphics for 2nd monitor

I can't find anything on this forum about this specific issue, hoping someone can help.

I have a Desktop I use for music production, running Cubase and Native Instruments. The monitor I'm using is plugged in via HDMI to a 2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 1030 - that main monitor displays my Cubase project window, and is where I do all my editing.

I'd like to plug in a second monitor to the displayport on the motherboard - a Rog Strix X570-F gaming board. On this second monitor I'd like to have all my plugins for editing - Abbey Road drumkits in Kontakt and Reaktor Synths.

Are there any disadvantages to doing it this way?

And, if not, how do I enable the displayport on the motherboard, as I think this is disabled by default during the build, and the motherboard manual is scant on details as to how to do this.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You can plug the second monitor into the GPU also, it can handle multiple monitors.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm thinking of getting a second monitor with a DVI connector, but only have displayport at the mo, so that limits me to the motherboard option, as the geforce card only has HDMI and DVI.

You'd need to get an adapter cable then to go from DP to DVI.
DVI is a very old connector, hope it's not a new monitor that you're thinking of getting?

Ryzen doesn't have on board graphics, so you'd have to use the output from the GPU.
