Please provide your and input on my new quoted specs?

Hi guys,

New to the forums here s apologies for any errors in where I post this. Could you please advise on the below build and if there are things that would be advisable to change?. Budget is around 1500 and below. Thank you in advance

Hey there, the above costs £1548 and this is primarily for gaming and some photo editing and recording but primarily a gaming machine is what I was looking to cobble together

When you are new to the forums your posts will often end up being auto-moderated meaning that they can't be seen til approved by a mod - and this also applies to edits of previously approved posts - so your post seemingly disappeared when you edited it, but it was only awaiting approval - should be visible again now (unless you edit it again :))

This is a good spot. That system is better value and will offer higher performance than the one you specced up above.

It's a Review Spec, and these carry inbuilt discounts. I haven't costed it either but it will probably be about £1700's worth of hardware for £1500. Less if you ditch the OS.

I suspect it was the 'VULCAN S 01' review machine which I'm guessing disappeared as of late last night or early this morning as it's no longer available to order :( - unfortunately review spec'd machines are limited and do disappear after a while

Edit: or there is a hiccup somewhere as it claims it was only added yesterday (only just noticed this) and they don't normally disappear that fast unless there is an issue of some sort.

I saw it happen once with the AXIOM, a very high spec machine - it was only available for a matter of hours. I suspect PCS sometimes put out a review spec just to get a review, without any intention of selling it to actual customers (which is a bit naughty).

Why is it 'naughty'? A review machine is just that - a machine built specifically for a review. It's a marketing tool to attract customers to the website. Where is it written that review machines must be offered for sale?

Oh, it isn't written anywhere at all - I just get frustrated - they sit on the review page like goodies in a shop window, but you can't buy them!

Some are clearly for sale, and hang around for ages (like the magma pro, which the OP might be interested in: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/259/). It would be nice if there was a distinction between the two types. You certainly wouldn't get say, a phone company, advertising tariffs on its website that put out just to gain a reviewer's attention but which were never offered to real customers.

The Axiom was put up as a review spec, available for a very short time only, and then went unavailable. However, I believe it came back into availability later on for a bit. I remember noticing that it did anyway.

This seems to happen quite a bit nowadays with review specs. They're posted, are available for a day or so, then there's a gap before they're on offer properly. Happened with some of the laptop specs posted there too.

I expect the Vulkan 01 will be available again soon.

I take your point, but PCS are in the business of selling custom built PCs, not off the shelf PCs which is what review machines really are. Your comparison with a phone company isn't a good one because a phone company is selling a service not a product. I can understand that PCS don't want to waste time money and effort trying to sell review machines when their core business is custom builds.

I can well understand however that it must be very frustrating to see a review spec that suits you perfectly and be unable to buy one.

Actually it's not an accurate representation of their services as review machines tend to have built in discounts so for the purpose of cost vs performance it actually is misleading and "naughty". Not that it bothers me but as a consumer you shouldn't be defending it.

Playing devil's advocate for a moment - your argument would/should also extend to, e.g., supermarkets. They shouldn't be allowed to sell loss-leaders to tempt people in.

Yeah that's naughty as well however I just found it odd to be so dismissive of a fairly innocent yet legit comment/observation, not to get in to the ins and outs of manipulative marketing :p
