I dropped my phone on my screen and I need to replace it. I want to replace it myself because it looks quite easy and I won't be without the laptop. I asked PC Specialist but they won't just sell me a screen, they want me to send it in. I am not sure if it's just a case of buying a 17.3 laptop led screen or not? So could some kind person point me to where I can buy a screen, please?

Installing a screen is a very difficult process, it's probably the most difficult of anything on a laptop.

I would suggest you allow PCS to do it in all seriousness, it relies on literally taking most of the laptop apart and the risks of damaging in the process are very high.

You can't just buy a screen and slot it in, you just buy the actual panel, so have to take apart the screen, which means taking apart the chassis, as all the connectors are embedded in that, plus the Wifi antenna.... it's a serious pain.

You can't buy any screen, you have to buy the panel that the chassis uses as the frame is designed around that.

Not too sure what screens you have replaced in the past but in my experience replacing a screen is a simple process. Removing 2 bungs, then removing 2 screws, then prising off the plastic bezel, then removing 4 screws and the connector (you have to be careful with the connector) is hardly difficult.

I have replaced one in the past and I have just taken my screen off the Optimus to see the model number on the back, and I am typing on it now. It took me all of 10 minutes to take it off, and replace it so I can order a new one.

To get it replaced by PC Specialist would cost me (see below). A new one is costing me £68.
Optimus series screen: £139.00
Labour: £35.00
Collect & Return (optional): £35.00
(All pricing includes VAT)

If you're that competent then obviously that comment wasn't intended for you.

Generally screen replacements are best avoided for the non-techy.

What panel did you source for replacement?

Sourcing it from screens uk. They list two for the 17.3 Optimus, a VII and a VII Pro. Not sure which one I need so I have sent them a mail with the model number that's on the back of my screen, which is B173HAN03.1.

There's no way you'll get a replacement for under £100 or certainly not new.

Just fitted my new screen. I was going to order it from screens uk, but they ended up not having any stock. So I ordered one from Laptop Accessories and I have been waiting for it to come. Noticed on Friday that they had refunded my money, no explanation why, or any e-mail. So I ordered one from E-Bay on Friday and it came today. It looks brand new to me, and it's working fine, all for £63 including postage.
