Optimus 17.3...

I've just been informed that I have to hold the power button for a period of time to power up my new laptop...

Is this usual? Seems like such an unnecessary hassle.

Anybody else experienced this?

I hold the power button on my Vortex for 2 seconds I reckon...never even thought about it before...certainly doesn't bother me. Means its harder to turn on accidentally, which can only be a good thing imo.

Yeah me to its a couple of seconds, if i just press it quickly it does nothing.

I'd say it was normal, just tried it with 2 Dells here at work and they are the same.

My HP elitebook work laptop is the same as my optimus, maybe the HP is slightly shorter but you need to hold both in.
Normal I would say.

I had an acer and just had to press it once. Maybe a hold is the norm then! Thanks for your replies.

It is normal for the laptops we have at work here too, various brands, I assume it's so that you don't turn on/off the computer by just bumping the power button.
