Ordering Today/Final Check

Having spent the last few weeks researching parts/combinations I am now at a point to order. Before I do I would like people more knowledgeable than me to have a look and make sure there are no obvious errors in the build. My main area of concern was the RAM and specifically 3200mhz Vs 3600mhz and 2 sticks Vs 4 sticks and to someone who has played console all their years all this can be very confusing. In the end I went for X4 8GB sticks as the Youtube channels all seemed to be pointing that direction and from what I believe 3600mhz is wasted because the 5600x can't utilise that speed??

The storage was another area where I had to do a bit of research. I have an external SSD for photos/videos etc so everything on this build will be purely games and associated programs. I plan for the 500GB Firecuda to be the operating system drive/steam etc and the 2TB Corsair to store games. I would have picked PCS own SSD but they only offer 1TB storage option.

£2000 is a serious amount of money for me so want to make sure I am getting the best I can for that budget. Thank You in advance and sorry for being a nuisance.

I want to play 1440p and have an MSI 166MHZ 27" monitor. A 3060TI would probably suffice but I thought the 3070 may be slightly more future proof. I play games like Squad, Post Scriptum, Hell Let Loose and will be picking up Battlefield 6 when it releases. 32GB Ram is probably overkill but I would like to get into MS Flight Sim and I figured the additional RAM my help here?

Again, thank you in advance.

Was there a reason why the Tuf X570 rather than a 550? or are you thinking of future cpu upgrades?
Regarding 3200MHz vs 3600MHz, theres very little in it.

Theres even the arguement that the 3200MHz is better in this case, I believe its CL16 rather than CL18, and 4 sticks had had issues with 3600MHz on some systems with AMD. Regarding 2 Vs 4 on RAM sticks as well, the 5000 series CPUs from AMD are better with 4,
The previous series was better with 2. (Reliably informed lol)

Hi Sibun, yes purely for upgrades down the road.

I would take the 550 then.... upgrading the CPU is unlikely to be anything you do in the next few years, normally something you would do towards the end of its use to add a few years. (By that point your buying an old CPU dirt cheap but its still an upgrade on what was in there).
You'll have Intel 12th Gen coming out, DDR5 and theres bound to be more.

The main upgrades of any benefit to you will pretty much be the GPU, If you were going to be wanting CPU upgrades in 6 years just to keep cutting edge, you would be looking at a new build completely. CPU/Motherboard/RAM the whole platform will have moved up a gear.

I think you can drop to a Tuf 550 and upgrade that main OS M.2 to a Samsung 980 and save a £10....

You might also want to check out threads about the 6700XT vs RTX 3070, theres a big price difference between them but others have spoke about performance being comparible. As supplies of the 6700XT start to drop, their prices may rise too like Nvidias have.

I think it came down to whether you would actually use ray tracing (and DLSS, found the thread here ), 3060 Ti in as an option to counter that if you are using 27" 1440p monitors.

I must admit the 3060TI is very appealing. I think if I make any last minute changes it would be the 3060TI. Value of the card seems just too good and for 1440p gaming pretty much spot on.

Its greyed out on the config atm so you wont get a fresh order in with it just now.
You can however do it through amendments on existing orders I believe, so can order with a 6700XT and then pay the extra £50 as a sub order.
I think the queue may be quicker for 6700XT's just now... but no idea how long for.

yeah that looks a fairly solid build, word on the 6700XT are sounding real good, and if you are thinking MSFS in the future might be a good idea.

I'd stick with the 4*8 @ 3200MHz as well for the same reason, IE MSFS will like it

I am ignorant on the AMD GPU and always associated them as being unreliable because of the driver issues they once had. I have a 2060 Super currently and touch wood have never had any trouble and I guess that's why I am reluctant to move away.

For pure gaming the 5600X appears the choice and has recieved rave reviews. Would I be gaining any advantage going for 5800X for pure gaming performance? Any reviews I've read they all recommend the 5600X over the 5800X if gaming is the main focus. Obviously for productivity tasks this changes but if that is your focus as well as gaming the general consensus seems to be 5900X.

The difference to performance ram makes, when comparing 3200 vs 3600 and cl16 vs cl18 is very minimal - compared to GPU and CPU upgrades.

For pure gaming i’d go:
GPU (best to match screen)
CPU (Newest gen)
SSD games drive (Far better than loading from HDD)
RAM (as long as it is a minimum of 3200mhz CL18)

I have gone about £200 over budget so I am hoping I have covered all bases. I am 9 days into pre production and above is my original spec.

I have since upgraded the following.

CPU to a 5800X
AIO Cooler to a Corsair H115i Pro XT
1st SSD to a Samsung 980 500GB

With advice and guidance from the great community here I hope I've built a well rounded system that will serve me for several years.

My one area of, not concern but I guess curiosity is will the Lian Li 215 case fit the H115i Cooler? I assume there are no issues as nothing flagged in the configuration.

I have read the TUF X570 board needs an update to be compatible with the 5800X. I assume PCS will deal with any Board updates in the test stage?

Again thank you for all the help/advice.

Looks like a solid build with those changes!

The configurator would flag if a 280mm AIO wouldn't fit so It should fit. Checking the web page for the 215 confirms it doeshttps://lian-li.com/product/lancool-215/.

PCS will update the board if it's required. Once you revieve it, effectively the only thing you'll need to do is download the Windows updates and download the latest drivers for your GPU which can be done through GeForce Experience which should be downloaded when you recieve it.

The Lian Li Lancool 215 can accommodate a 280mm radiator at both the front and the top of the case. As you’ve not chosen the RGB RAM which is a little taller, they should be able to fit it at the top, which is the ideal placement. Although the H115i is such a good cooler they could probably place it in a bucket of lava and it’d still do the job.

Solid build, you’ve got everything you need for quality gaming, streaming and content creation 👍

That's great to hear AgentCooper. As I said I've broke my budget by about £200 but hopefully worth it!
It’s an investment, spending a bit of extra money at the start of a build will pay massive dividends as you don’t end up shelling out more later to correct things you could have scrimped on in order to trim costs. I think you’ve made some fine decisions. In fact... let me get one of my favourite gifs out, it seems as good an occasion as any...

@ASHENTI Im not sure it was specifically covered, but if the main aim is gaming here and creating your own content and streaming your play is more hobby or light activity you can get back in budget very easily by taking a 5600X with a B550 motherboard and still have a -very- good gaming machine.

Thats whats blowing your budget, the 5800X is only worth that expense to you if you are going to be doing those extras and regularly.
Dropping the CPU and motherboard down a step could bring you in under budget, expanding your case choices a little which may be more beneficial long term... this all pivots around your actual use so you need to forget the spec numbers a little/charm of more power and think whats going to serve you better.

From the responses we’ve had from @ASHENTI, it suggests that breaking their original budget isn’t going to leave them destitute. They’ve also stated that they’ve aspirations to get into MS Flight Sim, a title that only has the potential to become more core heavy as goes on. If we also factor in that the new consoles are using eight core processors it adds another layer to things in regard to longevity. The only question mark is over the case because it’s a relatively new one, but the reviews I’ve seen all seem to indicate that it’s a great cheaper option.

You’re absolutely correct that they could trim things to pull the budget back in line. But as long as OP isn’t on a bread and water diet thanks to the upgrade costs, I think they’ve made all the right choices for a brilliant all rounder machine.
