Outlook Issue

not sure if this is the right place for this or even if anyone can help - but:

up until this evening Outlook and my emails has been working with no issues - it's set with my @nhs.net account as I have been working from home off and on over the last year

However, just now, I went to check my emails and something strange has happened.

The home page looks fine - I can see all my folders on the left, emails (sender, subject, received) in the middle and calendar on the right. All look normal.

However - when I click on an email to read it, it gives a very quick "flash" almost and then displays a totally blank page apart from the subject and sender at the top

Have tried the good old power cycle and also an Office repair

Have tried google and don't have any Add-ins running that are suggested could cause issues and have tried disabling hardware graphics acceleration as also suggested

I haven't installed anything or made any changes (knowingly) to my PC recently.

Any help would be very gratefully received

Thanks

p.s - I am actually in work tomorrow, so will see if it replicated there or not - but won't be able to respond to any replies untill tomorrow evening - thanks

I'm not sure if I understand the problem right... Could it be that one of the sections is collapsed? It can be expanded by clicking on the section edge narrow.

Also, what's the version of your OS and Outlook itself?

As someone who has supported NHS staff in the past I know how NHSMail can be.

The symptoms sound as though it's caching your emails ok, thereby showing the summary headers etc in the main outlook window, but when you open it, there's either a long delay in downloading the message, or the connection is temporarily blocked.

NHSMail can be a little temperamental. It's worthwhile checking that there are no issues with NHSMail itself.

If it's working fine on your mobile or other sources, then it may be that it's not correctly signed in on the laptop?

I have just started having this exact same issue now this morning. Blank window on the right for all my Outlook emails. Everything works fine directly at outlook.live.com though.

I'll have to check and see it Outlook itself has updated recently. I'm guessing it's a bug in the app.....

Right - a quick Google and this worked for me. Worth a try perhaps???

Go to File - then Options at the bottom - the select "add-ins" on the left - you'll get a window like this - select Manage COM add-ins and click GO:

Then I deselected the add-ins I don't need or use - which is the last two on my list - the OneNote and Outlook Social thingy - and clicked OK.

Everything is working normally again now for me after restarting Outlook. Pot luck perhaps, but worth a try?

Just to clarify for the OP - try to disable add-ins that you don't need or use - rather than just looking for ones that you think gave issues for others in a Google search....

Just FWIW - I have now re-enabled those two add-ins and everything is still fine. So something was causing the glitch that a flip flop of some add-ins seems to have resolved.

There was an update that caused the issue and then a patch to correct it. I fixed mine by doing the following:

Open Elevated command prompt (Run CMD as admin)

Type the following:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\OfficeC2RClient.exe" /update user updatetoversion=16.0.13901.20462

Wait a few mins...... should be fixed.

Super - if mine reverts to it's previous issue I'll try this next. (y)

Is that process reverting to a previous version of something @Scott ?

Indeed, build 16.0.13929.20372 caused the issue.

It's basically a roll back.

Quick update - working fine now and I didn't even do anything - love (and hate) those solutions

I think @SpyderTracks or @Scott were probably on the right tracks

All hail the power of the PCSpecialist forum - just mention a problem and the PC fixes itself in fear :)

Thanks all
That will likely be the further update applying as @Scott said.

Glad it's working!
