Overdone or just right?

I'm about to take my first foray into a Wintel machine after using Macs since 2004.

I've specced this up to be mainly a game box with some photo editing as well.
I've gone a bit higher than required on the PSU so I don't have to change it later if I add stuff.

I haven't added a sound card. Is the on-board sound reasonable?

Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse are already sorted.

The motherboard is overkill for your intended use ,a cheaper one will do the same job. Are you planning in overclocking your cpu? Adding a second gpu?

It's entirely likely, if not certain, that extra 'stuff' will get added later.

The Mobo I figure will last me a fair while (My Mac is from 2009 - I'm not sure of the longevity of Wintel machinery). In any case, I figure it'll run anything I car to throw at it. I don't want to be replacing the mobo after a year.

A motherboard won't need to be replaced after a year. You are selecting a motherboard that is more for enthusiast overclockers, more expensive doesn't equal more upgradable, any motherboard in the configuraor will allow you to upgrade components.

Mobo now the Asus Z99, PSU down to 650 but RAM up to 3000.

Reviews I've seen say the SATA speed is a little low - I can live with that I think.

Onboard audio should be fine, I would suggest adding a soundcard after trying onboard audio first. Are you planning in overclocking your cpu or adding a 2nd gpu? I would also suggest getting at least gold warranty which cover parts for 2 years.

Cheers, yes I'll give the onboard audio a go.. it gets excellent reviews so I don't foresee much problem there.
I'll probably leave overclocking a while, see how my games perform and also how the photo stuff performs too.. I'll be loading 20Mb RAW files for editing in Lightroom, Photomatrix and Perfect Effects (all do non-destructive edits, so much ram is used).

I suspect the games will show up any need, but it'll probably be a while. Anyway, Ordered today since my Mac is getting very noisy and is likely to die sooner than later.
